"I call him my eternal Son,

"And raise him from the dead;
"I make my holy hill his throne,
"And wide his kingdom fpread.

"Afk me my Son, and then enjoy,
"The utmoft Heathen lands;
"Thy rod of iron fhall destroy,
"The rebel that withstands."

5 Be wife, ye rulers of the earth,
Obey th' anointed Lord,

Adore the King of heav'nly birth,
And tremble at his word.

9 With humble love addrefs his throne,
For if he frowns ye die ;

I

Those are fecure, and thofe alone,
Who on his grace rely.

HYMN 100. -FOR EASTER-DAY.

THIS

HIS is the day the Lord hath made,
He calls the hours his own; k
Let heav'n rejoice, let earth be glad,
And praise furround thy throne.

2 To-day he rofe and left the dead,
And fatan's empire fell;

To-day the faints his triumph fpread,
And all his wonders tell.

3 Hofanna to th' anointed King, To David's holy Son;

Help us, O Lord! defcend and bring

Salvation from thy throne.

4 Bleft be the Lord, who comes to men, With meffages of grace;

Who comes in God the Father's name,
To fave our finful race.

5 Hofanna in the highest strains;
The church on earth can raise;

The highest heav'ns in which he reigns,
Shall give him nobler praise.

HYMN 101.-For EASTER-DAY.

I EE what a living stone !
The builders did refuse;

Yet God has built his church thereon,
In fpite of envious Jews.

2 The fcribe and angry priest
Reject thine only fon;

Yet on this rock fhall Zion rest,
As the chief corner ftone.

3 The work, O Lord, is thine,

And wond'rous in our eyes; This day declares it all divine, This day did Jefus rife.

4 This is the glorious day

That our Redeemer made;

Let us rejoice, and fing, and pray,
Let all the church be glad.

5 Hofanna to the King

Of David's royal blood;

Blefs him, ye faints; He comes to bring Salvation from your God.

6 We blefs thine holy word

Which all this grace difplays; And offer on thine altar, Lord, Our facrifice of praise.

HYMN 102.FOR WHITSUNDAY.

'L

ORD, when thou didft afcend on high, Ten thousand angels fill'd the sky; Those heav'nly guards around thee wait, Like chariots that attend thy ftate.

2 Not Sinai's mountain could appear
More glorious when the Lord was there;
While he pronounc'd his dreadful law,
And ftruck the chosen tribe with awe,

3 How bright the triumph none can tell,
When the rebellious pow'rs of hell;
That thousand fouls had captive made,
Were all in chains like captives led.

4 Rais'd by his Father to the throne,
He fent the promis'd fpirit down,
With gifts and grace for rebel men,
That God might dwell on earth again.

HYMN 103.

FOR THE SACRAMENT.

H tell us no more,

A The fpirit and pow'r,

Of Jefus our God,

Is not to be found in this life-giving food.

2 Did Jefus ordain,
His fupper in vain,

And furnish a feast

For none but his earliest fervants to taste:

3 Nay, but this is his will,
(We know it and feel).

That we should partake

The banquet for all he fo freely did make.

4 In rapturous blifs

He bids us do this,

The joy it imparts

Hath witness'd his gracious defign in our hearts.

5 'Tis God we believe,

Who cannot deceive,

The witness of God

Is prefent, and fpeaks in the myftical blood.

6 Receiving the bread

On Jefus we feed,

It doth not appear

His manner of working; but Jefus is here!

HYMN 104.FOR NEW-YEAR'S-DAY.

WHILE

HILE with ceaseless courfe the fun,
Hafted thro' the former year,

Many fouls their race have run,
Never more to meet us here:
Fix'd in an eternal state,

They have done with all below;
We a little longer wait,

But how little-none can know.

2 As the winged arrow flies,
Speedily the mark to find;
As the light'ning from the fkies,
Darts, and leaves no trace behind :
Swiftly thus our fleeting days,

Bear us down life's rapid ftream;
Upwards, Lord, our fpirits raise,
All below is but a dream.

3 Thanks for mercies paft receive,
Pardon of our fins renew;
Teach us, henceforth, how to live
With eternity in view:

[ocr errors]

Bless thy word to young and old,
Fill us with a Saviour's love;
And when life's fhort tale is told,
May we dwell with thee above.

HYMN 105.FCR NEW-YEAR'S-DAY.
HE Lord of earth and íky,

T The God of ages praife!

Who reigns enthron'd on high,
Ancient of endless days;
