2 Sweet is the day of sacred rest; No mortal care shall seize my breast; Oh! may my heart in tune be found, Like David's harp of solemn sound! 3 My heart shall triumph in my Lord,

And bless his works and bless his word; Thy works of grace, how bright they shine!

How deep thy counsels! how divine!
4 Lord, I shall share a glorious part,
When grace hath well refined my heart,
And fresh supplies of joy are shed,
Like holy oil to cheer my head.

5 Then shall I see, and hear, and know
All I desired or wished below;
And every power find sweet employ,
In that eternal world of joy.

7.

1 How pleasant, how divinely fair,
O Lord of hosts, thy dwellings are!
With long desire my spirit faints,
To meet th' assemblies of thy saints.
2 My flesh would rest in thine abode,
My panting heart cries out for God;
My God, my King, why should I be
So far from all my joys and thee?
8 Blest are the saints who sit on high
Around thy throne of majesty;
Thy brightest glories shine above,
And all their work is praise and love.

4 Blest are the souls that find a place Within the temple of thy grace; There they behold thy gentler rays, And seek thy face, and learn thy praise. 5 Blest are the men whose hearts are set To find the way to Zion's gate;

God is their strength, and through the road

They lean upon their helper, God.
Cheerful they walk with growing strength,
Till all shall meet in heaven at length;
Till all before thy face appear,
And join in nobler worship there.

1 ANOTHER Six days' work is done, Another Sabbath is begun; Return, my soul! enjoy thy rest, Improve the day thy God has blessed. 2 Oh! that our thoughts and thanks may rise,

As grateful incense to the skies;

And draw, from heaven, that sweet repose, Which none, but he that feels it, knows. 3 This heavenly calm, within the breast, Is the dear pledge of glorious rest, Which for the church of God remainsThe end of cares, the end of pains. 4 In holy duties, let the day,

In holy pleasures, pass away;
How sweet a Sabbath thus to spend,
In hope of one that ne'er shall end.

2 To-day he rose, and left the dead,
And Satan's empire fell;

To-day the saints his triumph spread,
And all his wonders tell.

3 Hosanna to th' anointed King,
To David's holy Son:

Help us, O Lord! descend, and bring
Salvation from thy throne.

4 Blest be the Lord who comes to men With messages of grace;

Who comes, in God his Father's name, To save our sinful race.

5 Hosanna in the highest strains

The church on earth can raise; The highest heavens, in which he reigns, Shall give him nobler praise.

4 To thy great name, almighty Lord,
These sacred hours we pay,
And loud hosannas shall proclaim
The triumph of the day.

5 Salvation and immortal praise
To our victorious King!

Let heaven and earth, and rocks and seas,
With glad hosannas ring.

11.

1 EARLY, my God, without delay,
I haste to seek thy face;
My thirsty spirit faints away,

Without thy cheering grace.

2 I've seen thy glory and thy power Through all thy temple shine; My God, repeat that heavenly hour, That vision so divine.

3 Not all the blessings of a feast

Can please my soul so well,
As when thy richer grace I taste,
And in thy presence dwell.

4 Not life itself, with all its joys,
Can my best passions move,
Or raise so high my cheerful voice,
As thy forgiving love.

3 Hell and the grave combined their force 5 Thus, till my last expiring day,

To hold our God, in vain;

The sleeping conqueror arose, And burst their feeble chain.

I'll bless my God and King; Thus will I lift my hands to pray,

And tune my lips to sing.

2 Enter, with all thy glorious train,
Thy Spirit and thy word;
All that the ark did once contain,
Could no such grace afford.

3 Here, mighty God! accept our vows,
Here let thy praise be spread;
Bless the provisions of thy house,
And fill thy poor with bread.

4 Here let the Son of David reign,
Let God's Anointed shine;
Justice and truth his court maintain,
With love and power divine.

5 Here let him hold a lasting throne;
And as his kingdom grows,
Fresh honors shall adorn his crown,
And shame confound his foes.

16.

1 WITH joy we hail the sacred day
Which God hath called his own;
With joy the suminons we obey
To worship at his throne.

2 Thy chosen temple, Lord, how fair!
Where willing votaries throng
To breathe the humble, fervent prayer,
And pour the choral song.

3 Spirit of grace! Oh, deign to dwell

Within thy church below;
Make her in holiness excel,
With pure devotion glow.

4 Let peace within her walls be found; Let all her sons unite,

To spread with grateful zeal around
Her clear and shining light.

5 Great God, we hail the sacred day
Which thou hast called thine own;
With joy the summons we obey
To worship at thy throne.

17.

1 LORD, in the morning thou shalt hear My voice ascending high;

To thee will I direct iny prayer,

To thee lift up mine сус.

2 Up to the hills where Christ is gone, To plead for all his saints, Presenting at his Father's throne

Our songs and our complaints.

3 Thou art a God before whose sight The wicked shall not stand; Sinners shall ne'er be thy delight,

Nor dwell at thy right hand.

4 But to thy house will I resort
To taste thy mercies there;
I will frequent thy holy court,
And worship in thy fear.

5 Oh, may thy Spirit guide my feet
In ways of righteousness!
Make every path of duty straight,
And plain before my face.

1 ONCE more, my soul, the rising day
Salutes thy waking eyes;
Once more, my voice, thy tribute pay
To him that rules the skies.

2 Night unto night his name repeats,
The day renews the sound,
Wide as the heaven on which he sits,
To turn the seasons round.

3 'Tis he supports my mortal frame;

My tongue shall speak his praise;
My sins would rouse his wrath to flame,
And yet his wrath delays.

4 Great God, let all my hours be thine,
While I enjoy the light;
Then shall my sun in smiles decline,
And bring a pleasant night.

19.

1 How did my heart rejoice to hear
My friends devoutly say:
"In Zion let us all appear,
And keep the solemn day."

2 I love her gates, I love the road;
The church, adorned with
grace,
Stands like a palace built for God,
To show his milder face.

3 Up to her courts, with joys unknown, The holy tribes repair;

The Son of David holds his throne,
And sits in judgment there.

4 He hears our praises and complaints;
And, while his awful voice
Divides the sinners from the saints,
We tremble and rejoice.

5 Peace be within this sacred place,
And joy a constant guest!
With holy gifts and heavenly grace
Be her attendants blest!

6 My soul shall pray for Zion still,
While life or breath remains :
There my best friends, my kindred dwell;
There God, my Saviour, reigns.
