PREFATORY REMARKS.

THE increasing interest in Congregational Singing is creating a demand for a book adapted for use in small Christian assemblies, at a reduced price! In view of this fact, the Publishers here present the first part of the "Songs of the Church," embracing a sufficient number of Hymns and Tunes, for all practical purposes in the Chapel, Lecture-Room, PrayerMeeting, or Social Circle. The character of this selection is attested by the very extensive introduction of the "Songs of the Sanctuary" (from which book most of these pieces are taken) into numerous Presbyterian and Congregational Churches throughout the country.
