dence, and in our own consciences; and of feeling thy loving-kindness towards us in the minutest blessings of our daily lot. More than all we rejoice that we may see a still brighter manifestation of thyself in thy dearly-beloved Son, whom in the fulness of time thou didst send to seek and to save the lost, and through whom we may look to thee for forgiveness of our sins, and life everlasting.

Before we go forth this day in the fresh strength of mind and body which thou hast infused into us by sleep, we would consecrate ourselves anew, by the prayer of faith, for life's daily duties, enjoyments, and trials. Help us to fulfil our course this day acceptably to thee. May we rightly understand and faithfully discharge the responsibility which belongs to our several domestic relations; work within us by thy Holy Spirit, both to will and to do of thine own good pleasure. May we be affectionate one to another. May we bear each other's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. May we govern our tempers, restrain our angry passions, be sober-minded and temperate, humble and self-denying. May we speak the truth and live in peace. May our hearts ever be turned towards thee, that they may be ever open to receive thy gracious aid.

Lord and Giver of life, of our purest joys, of our richest comforts, of our immortal hopes, to thee we owe ourselves, and all that we possess. And while thou art the all-bountiful source of all the good in

which we rejoice before thee, thou hast turned aside the evil which for our sins we have so justly deserved. Give us that true repentance which needeth not to be repented of, that we may amend our lives according to thy holy Word.

Help us this day to receive its enjoyments with gratitude and use them with moderation. May we not labor only for the meat that perisheth, but rather for that which endureth unto everlasting life. May we set our affection on things above, and not on things on the earth. May we seek first and chiefly the kingdom of God and his righteousness, striving to lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven, which shall endure forever. May we meet the trials which thou shalt appoint unto us in a Christ-like temper; and improve them as the discipline of a Father's hand, believing that though we walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt stretch forth thy hand to receive us. O, that we may always remember that we are immortal; and that this remembrance may give seriousness and importance to our present life in the flesh, quicken us to high purposes and aims, inspire within us a true love of thyself and of our fellow-men, prompt an abiding reverence for thy holy law, and keep ever before us the condition of acceptance with thee declared by thy Son, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven. Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, that

our souls inay be clothed with the graces of purity and charity, and that we may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

Hear us in these our prayers; which we offer in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Cheerful Homage.

Give to the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give to the Lord glory and strength.

Give to the Lord the glory due to his name; bring an offering, and come unto his courts.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he will judge the people righteously.

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.

Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice before the Lord :

For he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he will judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

O GOD our Father, surrounded by the miracles of creation and providence, we would speak of the glorious honor of thy majesty, and talk of thy wonderful works. Thou hast spread out the firmament like a

tent to dwell in. Thou hast garnished the heavens by thy Spirit. Thou hast hung the earth upon nothing. Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are unknown. Lo, these are but parts of thy works. How little do we know of thee! O, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are thy judgments, and thy ways past finding out!

On this bright and beautiful morning, we seem to stand amidst a new creation. The same voice, which in the beginning said, Let there be light, has again spoken, and the earth, lately wrapped in darkness, is filled with morning light. Thy Spirit, which first breathed into human clay the breath of life, and man became a living soul, has recalled our minds from the unconsciousness of sleep, to activity and intelligence. Our bodies, lately exhausted with toil, and our minds, confused with care, are strong and clear, as if received fresh from thy creating hand. Help us to look upon all our faculties, all our blessings, as new gifts from thee. Help us to send out our admiring thoughts over thy works, as the morning light spreads over the earth. Aid us, O Father, to lift up our hearts in gratitude and praise, as the morning vapors rise from hill and stream; and as the sun fills their fleecy skirts with light, so let our thoughts and affections be illuminated by thy love.

Holy Father, more than for this material creation

and all our temporal mercies, do we thank thee for the spiritual creation by Jesus Christ, by which the reign of righteousness and love has been commenced on the earth. To him we owe all the civil, social and religious blessings, that distinguish us from heathen lands. But for him, we should be nurtured, not in Christian homes, but amid the corruptions of paganism; we should be bowing down, not in Christian temples, but in the house of idols; we should be living, not under institutions of learning and liberty, but in the prison-house of ignorance and oppression. 0, God! to thy dear Son we owe the blessings of this present life, and the brightness of our immortal hopes. Let our hearts go out in gratitude and love to him who loved us and gave himself for us, and by whose stripes we are healed.

And now, O thou Guardian of our lives, as we again go out unto the duties, trials and temptations, of the day, let thy kind providence be over each one of us. Suffer us not to fall into any temptations greater than we can bear; but, however sudden or unexpected their assaults, wilt thou, by thy Spirit, deliver us from their power. If in the discharge of duty, or in refusing to go with the multitude to do evil, we are reviled, help us to revile not again, but so to conduct as to feel the blessedness of those who suffer reproach falsely for Christ's sake. Give us that spirit of Christian sympathy which rejoices with those that rejoice, and weeps with those that weep Help
