Almighty Son! incarnate Word!
Our Prophet, Priest, Redeemer, Lord!
Before Thy throne we sinners bend;
To us Thy saving grace extend.

Eternal Spirit, by whose breath
The soul is raised from sin and death,
Before Thy throne we sinners bend;
To us Thy quickening power extend.
Jehovah! Father, Spirit, Son,
Mysterious Godhead! Three in One!
Before Thy throne we sinners bend;
Grace, pardon, life, to us extend.

We give immortal praise

148th M.

To God the Father's love,
For all our comforts here,
And better hopes above:
He sent His own
Eternal Son,

To die for sins

That man had done.

To God the Son belongs
Immortal glory too,

Who bought us with his blood

From everlasting woe:

And now He lives,

And now He reigns,
And sees the fruit
Of all His pains.

64

To God the Spirit's Name
Immortal worship give,
Whose new-creating power
Makes the dead sinner live:
His work completes

The great design,
And fills the soul
With joy divine.

Almighty God! to Thee
Be endless honour done,
The undivided Three,
And the mysterious One.
Where reason fails,

With all her powers,
There faith prevails,
And love adores.

Thou, whose Almighty word
Chaos and darkness heard,
And took their flight,
Hear us, we humbly pray,
And where the Gospel day
Sheds not its glorious ray
Let there be light.'

P. M.

Thou, who didst come to bring
On thy redeeming wing
Healing and light,

Health to the sick in mind,
Sight to the inly blind,
Oh now to all mankind
"Let there be light."

65

Spirit of truth and love,
Life-giving, holy Dove,

Speed forth Thy flight;
Move on the waters' face,
Bearing the lamp of grace,
And in earth's darkest place
“Let there be light."
Blessed and Holy Three,
Glorious Trinity,

Wisdom, Love, Might,

Boundless as ocean's tide,

Rolling in fullest pride

Through the world far and wide,
"Let there be light."

Glory be to God on high,

God, whose glory fills the sky;
Peace on earth, and man forgiven,
Man, the well-beloved of heaven!
Hail, by all Thy works adored!
Hail, the everlasting Lord!
All Thy glories we confess,
Infinite and numberless!

Holy Spirit, Thee we own;
Thee, O Christ, the only Son!
Lamb of God for sinners slain,
Saviour of offending men.

7s.

Praise the Name of God Most High,
Praise Him, all below the sky;
Praise Him, all ye heavenly host,
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

Eternal Power! whose high abode
Becomes the grandeur of a God;
Infinite lengths beyond the bounds
Where stars revolve their little rounds;
Thee while the first archangel sings,
He hides his face behind his wings;
And ranks of shining thrones around
Fall worshipping, and spread the ground.
Lord, what shall earth and ashes do?
We would adore our Maker too;
From sin and dust to Thee we cry,
The Great, the Holy, and the High!
God is in heaven and men below;
Still be our voice, our words be few:
A solemn reverence checks our songs,
And praise sits silent on our tongues.

67

P. M.
Saviour, who from sin hast freed me,
In life's barren desert feed me,

Through death's darksome valley lead me,
Homeward to my Father's hall.

Hear, Creator, good and great!
Hear us, Saviour, mild and sweet!
Hear us, Holy Paraclete!

68

God Triune; my God, mine All!

Rejected and despised of men,

Behold a Man of woe!

C. M.

Grief was His close companion still
Through all His life below.

69

Yet all the griefs He felt were ours,
Ours were the woes He bore:
Pangs not His own His spotless soul
With bitter anguish tore.

Glory to God the Father, Son,
And Holy Ghost on high,
As was of old, is now, shall be
Through all eternity.

8, 7, 4.

Now my soul, thy voice upraising,
Sing the Cross in mournful strain;
Tell the sorrows all amazing,

Tell the wounds, the dying pain,
Which our Saviour

Sinless bore, for sinners slain.

He, the cruel scourge enduring,
Ransom for our sins to pay,
By His stripes transgressors curing,
Raising those who wounded lay,
Bore our sorrows,

And removed our pains away.

He to freedom hath restored us
By the very bonds He bare;
His nail-pierced limbs afford us
Each a stream of mercy rare :
Nailed He draws us

To the Cross, and keeps us there.
