fairly to acknowledge, that the Proteftant Separation from the Church of Rome, was built upon foundations wholly different from those, on which Your Separation from the Church of England is built.

But it is time for me to conclude. I had a design of adding fome few Confiderations more relating to fome other Parts of Mr Calamy's Book, and the Methods there taken for the fupporting, and establishing your Caufe. But I have already run out into a greater length, than I thought of, in fpeaking to what is more material to the great point between Us and, I am fure, You will agree with me, either, that I have already faid what is fufficient to recommend Conformity to You; or, that nothing, that I could farther allege, would fignify any thing towards it. However, If there be any thing in any part of that Book, which I have not regarded; or any thing, which You can add to what hath been already alleged; on which You will fay that your Caufe doth in the leaft depend: I promise, that I will give it all due confideration. In the mean while, give me leave to think, that I have advanced fomething,

in all that I have said, which may make You a little doubtful of the Excellence of your Caufe; and incline You to think fomewhat more favourably of Conformity, than You have hitherto appeared to do. You must, of neceffity, either Conform, or Separate. And, therefore, if I have faid but barely enough to make it a doubtful point, Whether of the two You ought to chufe; confider, laft of all, that there are many, and weighty Argu ments to determine You to Conformity; and remember, that it is your own Conceffion, That you ought to be much more willing to attend to any Reafons that can engage You to that, than to find out Evafions, and Arts, for the keeping on foot our unhappy Divifions. It is in your Power to put a mighty stop to them; and, I pray God, it may, at length, be in your Will.

Serious Admonition

ΤΟ

Mr.CALAMY, &c.

SIR,

Have already given fufficient Affurances to You, and the World, that my whole Defign, in endeavouring to reply to the Tenth Chapter of your Abridgment of the Life of Mr. Baxter, was founded upon nothing, but a fincere defire that Truth might prevail; and that all Perfons concerned might the more eafily judge on which fide it lies. This I have frequently, and seriously professed: And, therefore, need not now repeat any thing of this nature; but only take care to let the World fee, by my Behaviour in this Controversie, that I am as much concerned for Truth, in reality, is in ProA 2 feffion.
