The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul; but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. Prov. xv. 31, 32.

As an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear. Prov. xxv. 12.

XII.-To forgiving Injuries.

Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and He shall save thee. Prov. xx. 22.

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink; for thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee. Prov. xxv. 21, 22.

Love your enemies, bless them that curse you do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven; for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matt. v. 44, 45.

And when ye stand praying, forgive if ye have aught against any; that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Mark xi. 25.

Love ye your eneinies; and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest ; for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Forgive, and ye shall be forgiven. Luke vi. 35, 37.

Not rendering evil for evil or railing for railing, but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called that ye should inherit a blessing. 1 Peter iii. 9.

Chastity and Purity.

If ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matt. vi. 14.

XIII.-To Chastity and Purity.

To Chastity. If a man be just and do that which is lawful and right, and hath not defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman; hath walked in My statutes, and hath kept My judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord. Ezek. xviii. 5, 6, 9.

To Purity.-Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God. Matt. v. 8.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? and who shall stand in His holy place? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart. Psalm xxiv. 3, 4.

With the pure Thou wilt show Thyself pure.

Psalm xviii. 26. Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. Psalm 1xxiii. 1.

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the Master's use, and prepared unto every good work. 2 Tim. ii. 21. Titus i. 15.

Unto the pure all things are pure.

XIV.-To Diligence.

The hand of the diligent maketh rich.

Prov. x. 4.

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be under tribute. The substance of a diligent man is precious. He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread. Prov. xii. 24, 27, II.

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat. Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; but he that gathereth by labour shall increase, Prov. xiii. 4, II.

In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury. Prov. xiv. 23.

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want. Prov. xxi. 5.

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings, he shall not stand before mean Prov. xxii. 29.

men.

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. Prov. xxviii. 19.

To Improving our. Talents.-Well done, good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord. Unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance. Matt: xxv. 23, 29.

Moderation in Sleep.-Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread. Prov. xx. 13.

XV. To the Just and Honest.

That which is altogether just shalt thou follow ; that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Thou shalt have a perfect and perfect and just measure shalt thou have. days may be lengthened in the land thy God giveth thee.

A false balance is an abomination but a just weight is His delight.

He that is greedy of gain troubleth but he that hateth gifts shall live.

Deut. xvi. 20. just weight; a That thy which the Lord Deut. xxv. 15. unto the Lord; Prov. xi. I. his own house; Prov. xv. 27.

The Just and Honest.

Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right. Prov. xvi. 8.

A faithful man shall abound with blessings; but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. Prov. xxviii. 20.

To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. Prov. xxi. 3.

He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly, he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil, he shall dwell on high, his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him, his waters shall be sure.

Isaiah xxxiii. 15, 16.

Thus saith the Lord: Keep ye judgment and do justice; for My salvation is near to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it. Isaiah lvi. 1, 2.

He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent; he that doeth these things shall never be moved. Psalm xv. 5.
