And, mark'd with blessings, every hour Shall speak thy co-extended praise. 3 Be all my lengthen'd life employ'd Thine image in soul to see; Fill with thyself the mighty void; Enlarge my heart to compass thee. 4 The blessing of thy love bestow; For this my cries shall never fail; Wrestling, I will not let thee go,I will not, till my suit prevail.

5 Come, then, my Hope, my Life, my Lord,
And fix in me thy lasting home;
Be mindful of thy gracious word-
Thou, with thy promised Father, come.
6 Prepare, and then possess my heart;
O take me, seize me from above;
Thee may I love, for God thou art;
Thee may I feel; for God is love.

HYMN 265.

Praying for light, liberty, and joy. P. M.
1 LIGHT of those whose dreary dwelling
Borders on the shades of death,
Come, and, by thyself revealing,
Dissipate the clouds beneath.

2 Thou, new heaven and earth's Creator,
In our deepest darkness rise;
Scatt'ring all the night of nature,—
Pouring day upon our eyes.

3 Still we wait for thine appearing;
Life and joy thy beams impart,
Chasing all our fears, and cheering
Every poor, benighted heart.

4 Come, extend thy wonted favour
To our ruin'd, guilty race,

1

Come, thou blest, exalted Saviour, Come, apply thy saving grace. 5 By thine all-atoning merit,

1

Every burden'd soul release;
By the teachings of thy Spirit,
Guide us into perfect peace.
HYMN 266.

Praying for the pardoning love of Jesus. P. M.
THOU who didst for sinners die,
Behold my sorrow, hear my cry,
And set my spirit free:

I long thy pard'ning love to know,
And, while I live, in grace to grow,

Then dwell in heaven with thee. 2 Lover of souls,-to rescue mine, Reveal the charity divine,

That suffer'd in my stead,-
That made thy soul a sacrifice,
That closed in death thy gracious eyes,
And bow'd thy sacred head.

3 The veil of unbelief remove,
And by thy manifested love,
And by thy sprinkled blood,
Destroy the love of sin in me,
And get thyself the victory,-
Restore my soul to God.

HYMN 267.

L. 135. Praying for the overthrow of sin. C. M.
THAT thou wouldst the heavens rend,
In majesty come down,—

Stretch out thine arm omnipotent,
And seize me for thine own.

2 Descend, and let thy lightnings burn
The stubble of thy foe,

My sins o'erturn, o'erturn, o'erturn,
And make the mountains flow.
3 Thou my impetuous spirit guide,
And curb my headstrong will;
Thou only canst drive back the tide,
And bid the sun stand still.
4 What though I cannot break my chain,
Or e'er throw off my load;
The things impossible to men,
Are possible to God.

5 Lo! to the hills I lift mine eye;
Thy promised aid I claim:
Father of mercies, glorify
Thy fav'rite Jesus' name.
6 Salvation in that name is found,
Balm of my grief and care;
A med'cine for my every wound,
All, all I want is there.

HYMN 268.

L. 144. Altd. The languishing heart uplifted to Christ. 4 lines 8's and 2-6's.

1

STILL, Lord, I languish for thy grace;
Reveal the beauties of thy face,
The middle wall remove :
Appear, and banish my complaint;
Come and supply my only want,—
Come, fill my soul with love!

2 O conquer this rebellious will :
Willing thou art, and ready still;
Thy help is always nigh;
The hardness from my heart remove,
Implant within thy pard'ning love,
While at thy feet I lie.

3 To thee I lift my mournful eye:
Why am I thus ?-O tell me why
I do not love my God?

The hind'rance must be all in me
It cannot in my Saviour be;

Witness that streaming blood!

4 It cost thy life my heart to win,
To save it from the power of sin,
And with thy love constrain:

Come then, my Lord, thy right assert,
Take to thyself my ransom'd heart,
And in it ever reign.

HYMN 269.

L.341. Altd. Panting to be freed from his load of sin. L.M. THAT my load of sin were gone,

1

O that I could at last submit

At Jesus' feet to lay it down,—

To lay my soul at Jesus' feet.

2 When shall mine eyes behold the Lamb,-
The God of my salvation see?
Weary, O Lord, of sin I am,

And still I cannot come to thee.
3 Rest for my soul I long to find:
Saviour of all, if mine thou art,
Now upraise my fainting mind,
And seal forgiveness on my heart.
4 Come, Lord, the drooping sinner cheer
Nor let thy chariot wheels delay;
Appear, in my poor heart appear,—
My God, my Saviour, come away.

HYMN 270.

Confessing his guilt, and imploring rest. L. M.
WAKED from sin's delusive sleep,
My heavy guilt I feel, and weep;
Beneath a weight of woes oppress'd,
I come to thee, my Lord, for rest.

1

2 Now, from thy throne of grace above,
Look down upon my soul in love ;—
Thy grace would purge my guilty stain,
Thy smile would give me joy for pain.
3 By thy divine, transforming power,
My ruin'd nature now restore,

And let my life and temper shine,
In blest resemblance, Lord, to thine.

HYMN 271.

His poverty and sorrow stated, and relief implored.
6 lines 8's.

JESUS, if still the same thou art,
If all thy promises are sure,
Set up thy kingdom in my heart,

And make me rich, for I am poor ;
To me be now thy treasures given,-
The kingdom of an inward heaven.
2 Thou hast pronounced the mourner blest,
And lo! for thee I ever mourn ;

I cannot, no, I will not rest,

Till thou, my only rest, return ;
Till thou, the Prince of peace, appear,
And I receive the Comforter.
3 Where is the blessedness bestow'd
On all that hunger after thee?
I hunger now, I thirst for God;
See the poor fainting sinner, see,
And satisfy with endless peace,
And fill me with thy righteousness.
HYMN 272.

SIN-AT

Seeking rest in Christ. 4 lines 7's.
IN-ATONING Saviour, hear,
And to help me now appear;
Man of sorrows, Son of God,
Wash me in thy cleansing blood.
