3 0 let them all thy mind express,
And be thy faithful witnesses;
Thy power unto salvation show,
And perfect holiness below.
4 In them let all mankind behold
How Christians lived in days of old;
Mighty their envious foes to move,—
A proverb of reproach and love.
5 Call them into thy wondrous light,
Worthy to walk with thee in white:
Make up thy jewels, Lord, and show
Thy glorious, spotless Church below.
6 From every sinful wrinkle free,
Redeem'd from all iniquity,

The fellowship of saints make known,
And O, my God, may I be one!

HYMN 652.

Blessings implored on her behalf. L. M.

10THOU, our Saviour, Brother, Friend,

Behold a cloud of incense rise;
The prayers of saints to heaven ascend,
Grateful, accepted sacrifice.

2 Regard our prayers for Zion's peace;
Shed in our hearts thy love abroad;
Thy gifts abundantly increase;
Enlarge, and fill us all with God.
3 Instruct thy rising church below,
To know and do thy perfect will,—
To every man thy goodness show,
Till every man thy goodness feel.
4 Help us to make our calling sure;
Ở let us all be saints indeed,
And pure, as thou thyself art pure,-
Conform'd in all things to our Head.

HYMN 653.

Prayer that her river of life may irrigate and replenish the ends of the earth. L. M.

GR

REAT Source of being and of love, Thou wat'rest all the worlds above; And all the joys which mortals know, From thine exhaustless fountain flow. 2 A sacred spring, at thy command, From Zion's mount, in Canaan's land, Beside thy temple cleaves the ground, And pours its limpid stream around. 3 Close by its banks, in order fair, The blooming trees of life appear; Their blossoms fragrant odours give, And on their fruit the nations live. 4 Flow, wondrous stream! with glory crown'd, Flow on to earth's remotest bound; And bear us, on thy gentle wave, To him who all thy virtues gave. HYMN 654.

1

Prayer for her universal extension. 4 lines 7's.
ESUS cause thy light divine,

Through the Church, on man to shine,

Till the nations from afar

Hail her as their guiding star.
2 Then, with thy unsparing hands,
Scatter blessings through the lands;
Cause the world's remotest bound
With thy praises to resound.

CHURCH-FELLOWSHIP, COMMUNION OF SAINTS,
BROTHERLY LOVE.

HYMN 655.

An analogy betwixt the harmonious union observed in the works of creation and the fellowship of saints in earth and in heaven. C. M.

THE

HE glorious universe around,
The heavens with all their train,

Sun, moon, and stars are firmly bound
In one mysterious chain.

2 The earth, the ocean, and the sky,
To form one world agree;
Where all that walk, or swim, or fly,
Compose one family.

3 God in creation thus displays
His wisdom and his might,
While all his works with all his ways
Harmoniously unite.

4 In one fraternal bond of love,
One fellowship of mind,

The saints below and saints above
Their bliss and glory find.

5 Here, in their house of pilgrimage,
Thy statutes are their song:
There, through one bright, eternal age,
Thy praises they prolong.

6 Lord, may our union form a part
Of that thrice happy whole;

Derive its pulse from thee, the heart,
Its life from thee, the soul.

HYMN 656.

The design of Christian fellowship, and prayer that the design may be realized. 4 lines 6's, and 2-8's.

1 THOU God of truth and love,

THOU

We seek thy perfect way,
Ready thy choice t' approve,
Thy providence to obey,
Enter into thy wise design,
And sweetly lose our wills in thine.
2 Why hast thou cast our lot

In the same age and place?
And why together brought
To see each other's face,-

To join with softest sympathy,
And mix our friendly souls in thee?
3 Didst thou not make us one,

That we might one remain,
Together travel on,

And bear each other's pain,
Till all thy utmost goodness prove,
And rise renew'd in perfect love?
4 Surely thou didst unite

Our kindred spirits here,
That all hereafter might

Before thy throne appear,
Meet at the marriage of the Lamb,
And all thy gracious love proclaim.
5 Then let us ever bear

The blessed end in view,
And join with mutual care,

To fight our passage through,
And kindly help each other on,
Till all receive the starry crown.
6 O may thy Spirit seal

Our souls unto that day,
With all thy fulness fill,

And then transport away,-
Away to our eternal rest,—
Away to our Redeemer's breast.
HYMN 656 a.

A cheering description of Christian love in operation. C.M.

HOW

OW sweet, how heavenly is the sight,
When those who love the Lord,

Do in each other's peace delight,

And thus fulfil his word;

2 When each can feel his brother's sigh,
And with him bear a part;

When sorrow flows from eye to eye,
And joy from heart to heart:-

3 When, free from envy, scorn, and pride,--Our wishes all above,

Each can his brother's failings hide,
And show a brother's love;-
4 When love in one delightful stream,
Through every bosom flows,

And union sweet, with dear esteem,
In every action glows.

5 Love is the golden theme that binds
The happy souls above;

1

And he's an heir of heaven, that finds
His bosom glow with love.
HYMN 657.

The blessedness of brotherly love. S. M.

BLEST are the sons of peace,

Whose hearts and hopes are one,Whose kind designs to serve and please Through all their actions run.

2 Blest is the pious house

Where zeal and friendship meet;
Their songs of praise, their mingled vows,
Make their communion sweet.

3 Thus on the heavenly hills

The saints are blest above,
Where joy like morning dew distils,
And all the air is love.

4 Such love to give mankind,
The Lord from glory came;
may its power believers bind;
Its bliss may they proclaim.
HYMN 658.

The joy of Christian fellowship. C. M.

ALL praise to our redeeming Lord,
Who joins us by his grace,

And bids us, each to each restored,
Together seek his face.
