Palms in our hands we all shall bear,
And crowns upon our head.
5 Then let us lawfully contend,
And fight our passage through;
Bear in our faithful minds the end,
And keep the prize in view.
HYMN 838.

S. 75. Altered. Encouragement in warfare by the
prospect of heavenly rest and joy. C. M.
E seek a glorious rest above,-
A land of endless light,-

WE

A heaven of happiness and love,—
A city out of sight.

2 We seek a house not made with hands,-
Where pleasures never die,-
Which on a sure foundation stands,
For ever in the sky.

3 We many sore temptations meet,
While in this vale of woe;

But these will make our joys more sweet,
When we to glory go;-

4 Then let us keep the faith, and fight
Against the world and sin;

Our foes will soon be put to flight,-
We shall the battle win.

5 We'll bid farewell to all our grief,
And anguish know no more;
From every storm we shall be safe
On heaven's eternal shore.
HYMN 839.

L. 486. The present sufferings of the pious not to be compared with the glory awaiting them. 4 lines 8's & 2-6's. 1 ED by the God of truth and grace, We seek a glorious, happy place,

That lies beyond the tomb,—

564

From pain and sorrow far away,
Where beauty never shall decay,
And death shall never come.

2 The day is follow'd here by night,
But in that happy world of light
Darkness can ne'er be found;
The Lamb, who was on Calvary slain,
Illumines all the heavenly plain,
And sheds his love around:-
3 He sits enthroned in glory bright,
Ten thousand saints array'd in white,
His mighty Name adore;

They tune their golden harps and cry,
All glory be to God on high,

Who lives for evermore.

4 When with that glory we compare
The suff'rings which on earth we bear,
How light they all appear!

With Canaan's happy land in view,
Our heavenly journey we'll pursue,
And cast off every fear.
HYMN 840.

The Christian's pathway to heaven illumed and sweetened by Hope, 11's.

HYMN 841.

The soul summoned to arise from transitory to heavenly things. P. M.

1

RISE, my soul, and stretch thy wings;

Thy better portion trace;

Rise from transitory things,

Tow'rds heaven, thy native place:
Sun, and moon, and stars decay;

Time shall soon this earth remove;

Rise, my soul, and haste away
To seats prepared above.

2 Rivers to the ocean run,

Nor stay in all their course;
Fire, ascending, seeks the sun;
Both hasten to their source:
So a soul that's born of God,
Pants to view his glorious face;
Upward tends to his abode,

To rest in his embrace.
3 Cease, ye pilgrims, cease to mourn;
Press onward to the prize;

Soon our Saviour will return
Triumphant in the skies:

There we'll join the heavenly train,
Welcomed to partake the bliss;

Fly from sorrow, care, and pain,
To realms of endless peace.

HYMN 842.

An assembly of Christian worshippers praying to be prepared to join the glorified. P. M.

IN

N thy Name, O Lord, assembling,
We, thy people, now draw near:
Teach us to rejoice with trembling;
Speak and let thy servants hear;-
Hear with meekness,-

Hear thy word with godly fear.
2 While our days on earth are lengthen'd,
May we give them, Lord, to thee;
Cheer'd by hope, and daily strengthen'd,
May we run, nor weary be,
Till thy glory

Without cloud in heaven we see, 3 There, in worship purer, sweeter, All thy people shall adore, Sharing them in rapture greater Than they could conceive before;— Full enjoyment,

Full and pure for evermore.
