load of sin were gone!
To lay my soul at Jesu's feet! 2 When shall mine eyes behold the LAMB?
The God of my salvation see?
- Yet still I cannot come to Thee. 3 Rest for my soul I long to find :
SAVIOUR of ALL, if inine Thou art,
And stamp Thine image on my heart. 4 Break off the yoke of inbred sin,
And fully set my spirit free:
Till I am wholly lost in Thee.
Thy light and easy burden prove;
The labour of Thy dying love. 6 I would, but Thou must give the pow'r,
My heart from ev'ry sin release : Bring near, bring near the joyful hour,
And fill me with Thy perfect peace. 7 Come, LORD! the drooping sinner cheer,
Nor let Thy chariot wheels delay! Appear, in my poor heart appear!
My God, my SAVIOUR, come away!
Lúmenting Sin. 1 O LORD, how vile am I,
1 Unholy and unclean! How can I dare to venture nigh,
With such a load of sin ?
2 If I attempt to pray,
And lisp Thy holy Name,
I know not where I am.
3 If in Thy Word I look,
Such darkness fills my mind, I only read a sealed book,
But no relief can find. 4 Thy Gospel oft I hear,
But hear it still in vain ;
I like a stone remain. 5 Myself can hardly bear
This wretched heart of mine;
To those pure eyes of Thine ? 6 And must I then indeed
Sink in despair and die?
For such a wretch as I. 7 Low at Thy feet I bow,
Oh pity and forgive!
Shalt bid me rise and live,
Lumenting Sin.- Instability.
1 WHY is my heart so far from Thee, ,
My God, my chief delight?
With Thee, no more by night?
2 Why should my foolish passions rove?
Where can such sweetness be
As I have found in Thee?
3 When my forgetful soul renews
The savour of Thy grace,
The relish all my days.
4 But ere one fleeting hour is past,
The flattering world employs Some sensual bait to seize my taste,
And to pollute my joys.
5 Then I repent and vex my soul
That I should leave Thee so: Where will those wild affections roll,
That let a SAVIOUR go?
6 Wretch that I am to wander thus
In chase of false delight!
Nor let me lose Thy sight,
On whom I cast my ev'ry care,
Inspire, and then accept my pray’r. 2 If I have tasted of Thy grace,
The grace that sure salvation brings ; If with me now Thy SPIRIT stays,
And hov'ring hides me in His wings; 3 Still let Him with my weakness stay,
Nor for a moment's space depart;
And keep till He renews my heart.
I hear ; “ Return, and walk in Christ Thy way; “ Fly back to CHRIST ; for sin is near.
If mercy may be found for me. 2 Yes, I have stray'd from Thee, my GOD;
Have slighted Thy afflicting rod;
3 O GOD! my wanderings forgive;
O bid Thine erring creature live!
Walking in Darkness.
1 Hear, gracious God! my humble moan,
To Thee I breathe my sighs:
And when my joys arise?
My FATHER and my Friend-
On which Thy saints depend!
I would Thy grace entreat;
Nor leave Thy sacred seat.
Thy Word is all my stay;
Thy presence makes my day.
Relieve my aching heart :
And all the gloom depart.
