4 If I, for Thy dear sacred Name,
Reproach'd and slander'd be ;
I'll glory in reproach and shame,
If Thou remember me.

5 And when I tread the vale of death,
And bow at Thy decree,
SAVIOUR, with my last fault'ring breath,
I'll cry, Remember me.

Hymn.

Earnestly desiring and seeking Holiness.

1 OH! for a closer walk with GOD,
A calm and heav'nly frame;
A light, to shine upon the road
That leads me to the LAMB!

2 Where is the blessedness I knew
When first I saw the LORD?
Where is the soul-refreshing view
Of JESUS, and His Word?

3 What peaceful hours I once enjoy'd!
How sweet their mem'ry still!
But they have left an aching void
The world can never fill.

4 Return, O holy DOVE! return,
Sweet Messenger of rest!

I hate the sins that made Thee mourn,
And drove Thee from my breast.

5 The dearest idol I have known,
Whate'er that idol be,

Help me to tear it from Thy throne,
And worship only Thee.

6 So shall my walk be close with GOD, Calm and serene my frame;

So

purer light shall mark the road That leads me to the LAMB.

Hymn.

Earnestly desiring and seeking Holiness.

1 FOR a heart to praise my God,
A heart from sin set free!

A heart that always feels Thy blood
So freely spilt for me!

2 A heart resign'd, submissive, meek,
My great REDEEMER'S throne;
Where only CHRIST is heard to speak,
Where JESUS reigns alone.

3 A humble, lowly, contrite heart,
Believing, true, and clean!

Which neither life nor death can part
From Him that dwells within:

4 A heart in ev'ry thought renew'd,
And full of love divine;

Perfect, and right, and pure, and good;
A copy, LORD, of Thine.

5 Thy nature, gracious LORD, impart :
Come quickly from above;

Write Thy new Name upon my heart, Thy new, best Name of love.

Hymn.

Earnestly desiring and seeking Holiness.

1 THOU hidden love of GOD, whose height,
Whose depth unfathom'd, no man knows;
I see from far Thy beauteous light,
Inly I sigh for Thy repose:

My heart is pain'd, nor can it be
At rest, till it find rest in Thee,

2 The secret voice invites me still

The sweetness of Thy yoke to prove;
And fain I would but though my will
Seem fixt, yet wide my passions rove;
Yet hindrances strew all the way;
I aim at Thee, yet from Thee stray.
3 'Tis mercy all, that Thou hast brought
My mind to seek her peace in Thee:
Yet while I seek, but find Thee not,

No peace my wand'ring soul shall see:
O when shall all my wand'rings end,
And all my steps to Thee-ward tend!

4 Is there a thing beneath the sun,

That strives with Thee my heart to share?
Ah! tear it thence, and reign alone,
The LORD of ev'ry motion there!
Then shall my heart from earth be free,
When it hath found repose in Thee.

O hide this self from me, that I

No more, but CHRIST in me may live!
My vile affections crucify,

Nor let one darling lust survive :
In all things nothing may I see,
Nothing desire, or seek, but Thee.

6 Each moment draw from earth away My heart, that lowly waits Thy call; Speak to my inmost soul, and say,

"I am thy Love, thy GOD, thy All!" To feel Thy pow'r, to hear Thy voice, To taste Thy love, be all my choice.

Hymn.

Earnestly desiring and seeking Holiness.

1 FOR

ever here my rest shall be,
Close to Thy bleeding side;
This all my hope, and all my plea,
For me the SAVIOUR died.

2 My dying SAVIOUR, and my God,
Fountain for guilt and sin,
Sprinkle me ever with Thy blood,

And cleanse, and keep me clean.

3 Wash me, and make me thus Thine own: Wash me, and mine Thou art:

Wash me, but not my feet alone,
My hands, my head, my heart.

4 Th' atonement of Thy blood apply,
Till faith to sight improve;

Till hope in full fruition die,
And all my soul be love.

Hymn.

Earnestly desiring and seeking Holiness.

1 HOLY LAMB, who Thee receive,
Who in Thee begin to live,

Day and night they cry to Thee,
As Thou art, so let us be!

2 JESUS, see my panting breast!
See I pant in Thee to rest!
Gladly would I now be clean;
Cleanse me now from ev'ry sin.

3 Fix, O fix my wav'ring mind!
To Thy cross my spirit bind:
Earthly passions far remove;
Swallow up my soul in love.

4 Dust and ashes though we be,
Full of sin and misery,

Thine we are, Thou SON of God:
Take the purchase of Thy blood!

5 Who in heart on Thee believes,
He th' atonement now receives ;
He with joy beholds Thy face,
Triumphs in Thy pard'ning grace.

6 See, ye sinners, see the flame,
Rising from the slaughter'd LAMB,
Marks the new, the living way,
Leading to eternal day!

7 JESUS, when this light we see,
All our soul's athirst for Thee:
When Thy quick'ning pow'r we prove,
All our heart dissolves in Thee.

8 Boundless wisdom, pow'r divine,
Love unspeakable are Thine!
Praise by all to Thee be giv'n,
Sons of earth, and hosts of heav'n.
