66 COMMIT THY WAY UNTO THE LORD: TRUST ALSO

IN HIM."

COMMIT thou all thy griefs
And ways into His hands;

To His sure truth and tender care,
Who earth and heaven commands.

Who points the clouds their course,
Whom winds and seas obey;
He shall direct thy wand'ring feet,
He shall prepare thy way.

Thou on the Lord rely,

So safe shalt thou go on;
Fix on His work thy stedfast eye,
So shall thy work be done.

No profit canst thou gain
By self-consuming care;

To Him commend thy cause, his ear
Attends the softest prayer.

Thy wisdom infinite,

Father, Thy ceaseless love

Sees all Thy children's wants, and knows What best for each will prove :

And whatsoe'er Thou will'st, Thou dost, O King of Kings; What Thy unerring wisdom chose, Thy power to being brings.

Still heavy is thy heart?
Still sink thy spirits down?
Cast off the weight, let fear depart,
And every care be gone.

Far, far, above thy thought
His counsel shall appear,

When fully He the work hath wrought,
That caus'd thy needless fear.

LEAD ME IN THE WAY EVERLASTING."

( THOU, to whose all-searching sight The darkness shineth as the light,

Search, prove my heart; it pants for Thee: O burst these bands, and set it free.

Wash out its stains, refine its dross,
Nail my affections to the cross!
Hallow each thought, let all within
Be clean, as Thou, my Lord, art clean.

If in this darksome wild I stray,

Be Thou my light, be Thou my way:

No foes, no violence I fear,

No fraud, while Thou, my God, art near.

When rising floods my soul o'erflow,

When sinks my heart in waves of woe,

Jesu, Thy timely aid impart,

And raise my head and cheer

my heart.

Saviour, where'er Thy steps I see,
Dauntless, untir'd I follow Thee ;
O let Thy hand support me still,
And lead me to Thy holy hill.

If rough and thorny be the way,
My strength proportion to my day :
"Till toil, and grief, and pain shall cease,
Where all is calm, and joy, and peace.

THAT I MAY KNOW HIM, AND THE POWER OF

HIS RESURRECTION."

JESU, Thy boundless love to me

No thought can reach, no tongue declare:

O knit my thankful heart to Thee,

And reign without a rival there : Thine wholly, Thine alone I am : Be Thou alone my constant flame.

O grant that nothing in my soul
May dwell, but Thy pure love alone:
O may Thy love possess me whole,

My joy, my treasure, and my crown:
Strange fires far from my soul remove,
My every act, word, thought, be love.

O love, how cheering is Thy ray!
All pain before Thy presence flies!
Care, anguish, sorrow, melt away,
Where'er Thy healing streams arise:
O Jesu, nothing may I see,

Nothing hear, feel, or think, but Thee!
