EVEN THERE SHALL THY HAND LEAD ME, AND THY

RIGHT HAND SHALL GUIDE ME."

O THOU, by long experience tried,
Near whom no grief can long abide ;

My Lord, how full of sweet content

I

pass my years of banishment!

All scenes alike engaging prove

To souls impressed with sacred love!
Where'er they dwell, they dwell in Thee:
In heaven, in earth, or on the sea.

To me remains nor place nor time!
My country is in every clime :

I can be calm and free from care
On any shore, since God is there.

While place we seek, or place we shun,
The soul finds happiness in none;
But with my God to guide my way,
"Tis equal joy to go or stay.

Could I be cast where Thou art not,

That were indeed a dreadful lot;

But regions none remote I call,
Secure of finding God in all.

THOU HAST ASCENDED UP ON HIGH.”

HAIL the day that sees him rise,
Ravished from our wishful eyes!
Christ, awhile to mortals given,
Re-ascends his native Heaven;
There the mighty conqueror waits,
"Lift your heads, eternal gates!
"Wide unfold the radiant scene,
"Take the King of Glory in."

Circled round with angel-powers,
Their triumphant Lord and ours,
Conqueror o'er death, hell, and sin,
Take the King of Glory in:
Him though highest Heaven receives,
Still He loves the earth He leaves;
Though returned to His throne,

Still He calls mankind His own.

See, He lifts His hands above;
See, He shows the prints of love;
Hark! His gracious lips bestow
Blessings on His church below:
Still for us he intercedes,
Prevalent His death He pleads;
Next Himself prepares our place,
Saviour of the human race.

"Master," may we ever say,
"Taken from our head to-day,
See thy faithful servants, see!
Ever gazing up to Thee!

Grant, though parted from our sight,

High above yon azure height,

Grant our hearts may thither rise,
Seeking Thee beyond the skies!"

Ever upward may we move,
Wafted on the wings of love:
Looking when our Lord shall come,
Longing, gasping after home!
There may we with Thee remain,
Partners of Thine endless reign;

There Thy face unclouded see,

Find our Heaven of Heavens in Thee.

66 THEY DESIRE A BETTER COUNTRY, EVEN A

HEAVENLY."

RISE, my soul, and stretch thy wings,

Thy better portion trace;

Rise from transitory things

Toward heaven thy native place.

Sun, and moon, and stars decay,

Time shall soon this earth remove;

Rise, my soul, and haste away

To seats prepared above.

Rivers to the ocean run,

Nor stay in all their course;
Fire ascending seeks the sun,-

Both speed them to their source.
So a soul that's born of God,

Pants to view His glorious face:
Upwards tends to His abode,

To rest in His embrace.
