Lord, I wait for the reply: I shall be redeem'd from sin. 5 Hoping against hope, I wait Take away my heavy load. O bring near the joyful hour; All the guilt, and all the power. 6 Grant, O grant my last request; Nothing do I ask beside, Only give my spirit rest, Rest from self, and rest from pride: Bring into Thy perfect peace, Give me faith to enter in, Let me with Thy people cease 7 Power I want, a constant power Till my heart can sin no more, Give me this, I ask beside Nothing or in earth or heaven. A PRAYER FOR PERSONS JOINED IN FELLOWSHIP. PART I. I TRY us, O God, and search the ground O bid it all depart. 2 When to the right or left we stray, But guide our feet into the way 3 Help us to help each other, Lord, Increase our faith, confirm our hope, 5 Up into Thee, our living Head, Till Thou hast made us free indeed And sinless here below. 6 Then, when the mighty work is wrought, Receive Thy ready bride, Give us in heaven an happy lot With all the sanctified. PART II. I JESU, all power is given to Thee; Command our inward parts; Turn, as the rivers of the sea, Our hard unyielding hearts. 2 Our hearts are to ourselves unknown, Till Thou the veil remove; Open, enlarge, and melt them down 3 Thee, at Thy word, we come to meet, 4 O let us faithfully obey The counsel of Thy will, And each to each our faults display, 5 Our fig-leaves all be cast aside; Conceal the lust, to' indulge the pride 6 Open a window in our breast, 7 Remove the sins which we declare, The burden of our soul, And hear the mutual faithful prayer, Which makes the sinner whole. 8 To all, through faith which is in Thee, A perfect soundness give, And let us, from all sin set free, PART III. 1 GOD of our life, at Thy command And show our sore disease. 2 God of our health, in Thy great name 3 Forgive the sins through which we groan, Our filthiness of pride. 4 The devilish and the brutal lust 5 Then shall we to Thine only name The greatness of Thy power proclaim 6 Then let or earth or hell oppose, And witness to a world of foes That we can sin no more. PART IV. I JESU, united by Thy grace, And each to each endear'd, And know our prayer is heard. 2 Still let us own our common Lord, 3 Make us into one spirit drink, 4 Touch'd by the loadstone of Thy love, And ever towards each other move, 5 To Thee inseparably join'd, 6 This is the bond of perfectness, O let us (still we pray) possess 7 Grant this, and then from all below Insensibly remove; Our souls their change shall scarcely know, Made perfect first in love. 8 With ease our souls through death shall glide Into their paradise, And thence on wings of angels ride |
