1 JESUS, tender Shepherd, hear me ! Bless thy little lamb to-night; Through the darkness be Thou near me Watch my sleep till morning light.
2 All this day Thy hand has led me, And I thank Thee for Thy care; Thou hast clothed me, warm'd me, fed me, Listen to my evening prayer.
3 Let my sins be all forgiven;
Bless the friends I love so well; Take me, when I die, to heaven, Happy there with thee to dwell.
1 THROUGH the day Thy love hath spared us, Wearied we lie down to rest;
Through the silent watches guard us,
Let no foe our peace molest; Jesus, Thou our guardian be, Sweet it is to trust in Thee.
2 Pilgrims here on earth, and strangers Dwelling in the midst of foes, Us and ours preserve from dangers, In Thine arms may we repose; And when life's sad day is past,
Rest with Thee in heaven at last.
1 AND now another day is gone I'll sing my Maker's praise, My comforts every hour make known, His providence and grace.
2 But how my childhood runs to waste, My sins, how great their sum! Lord, give me pardon for the past, And strength for days to come.
3 I lay my body down to sleep, Let angels guard my head;
And through the hours of darkness keep Their watch around my bed.
4 With cheerful heart I close mine eyes, Since thou wilt not remove;
And in the morning let me rise, Rejoicing in thy love.
1 GLORY to Thee, my God, this night, For all the blessings of the light;
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings, Beneath Thine own Almighty wings.
2 Forgive me, Lord, for Thy dear Son, The ill that I this day have done; That with the world, myself, and Thee, I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.
3 Teach me to live, that I may The grave as little as my bed; Teach me to die, that so I may With joy behold the judgment-day.
4 O let my soul on Thee repose,
And may sweet sleep mine eyelids close; Sleep that may me more active make, To serve my God, when I awake.
5 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below ; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
1 THE day is past; again we close Our eyes in welcome sweet repose; Keep us, O God, each passing hour, Shield us with Thy Almighty power.
2 We own the sins that we have done; Forgive us through Thy only Son: O let Thy grace on us descend, And be our Father and our Friend.
3 Keep us this night from every foe; O let us still Thy goodness know; And when the morning dawn we see, May our first thoughts be thoughts of Thee.
1 AGAIN, a sinful child, I come, To seek my Father's face, And offer up my evening prayer, Before His throne of grace.
2 Now, Lord, before I lay me down, To take my quiet rest,
Give me that peace which comes from Thee, The sweetest and the best.
3 I know I have not tried to-day To please Thee as I ought, And Thou hast heard each naughty word, And seen each naughty thought.
4 How sinful must my heart appear To One who looks within!
But Jesus came and shed His blood To save me from my sin.
5 Through Him who died upon the Cross Be all my sins forgiven;
And fill my heart with holy thoughts Of Jesus Christ and Heaven.
6 So may I peacefully lie down To take my rest to-night, And safely sleep beneath Thy care, Until the morning light.
1 Now darkness shades the distant hills, The little birds are hid and still, And I my quiet sleep may take, Since my Creator is awake.
2 How sweet upon my little bed,
To think my Saviour guards my head, And He a helpless child can keep, Through all the hours of silent sleep!
