CXXXI.

From the German.
No. 1258.

HE Saviour's Blood and Righteousness
My Fin'ry is, my Wedding-drefs;
Therewith, when ent'ring Heaven's Land,
Full well fhall I before God ftand.

2 For tho' I once at Judgment-feat
Appear, I fhall no Cenfure meet;
Since I'm abfolv'd already here;
And my whole Debt is paid.off clear.
3 Th' Hand-writing on the Cross is seen,
A Spectacle for Satan's Spleen;

The Nails, that have the Saviour flain,
Have torn th' old Covenant in Twain.

4 Tho' fign'd and written with my Blood,
Most binding and moft firm it stood;
Yet now the Bond is cancell'd quite,
And no Demands on me can light.

The Fiend's deferved Pay here fee,
(Why nail'd he God's Son to the Tree?).
That he o'er Souls does lofe his Sway,
And Jefus bears them fav'd away.
6 This knows full well the Serpent old,
That fairly he has loft his Hold
Of us and all Mankind hereby,
And with the highest Equity.

7 And now the Lamb from Blemish free,
Who, on the rugged Shameful Tree,
For me his Life laid freely down,

For my

true Lord and God I own.

8 I do believe, his precious Blood, That most inestimable Good, Fills all the Treafuries divine,

9

And is in Heav'n ftill current Coin.

I do b’lieve, if Sinners Race

Ten thousand Times more numerous was;
Yet ftill the Devil had his Full,

'Tis without Right he keeps one Soul.

10 I b'lieve Eternity's Demand,
(Which does inexorable stand,
And lets nought damnable pafs free)
Is paid for ev'ry Soul and med

11 I do believe, the righteous God
Saw, by his dear Son's Death and Blood,

His Juftice better fatisfy'd,

Than if Adam had been deftroy'd.

12 'Tis true the Debt this would erase,
But Satan would t'infult have Place;
And God had loft his Image fair;
'Tis better, we released are.

13 Now the whole Universe shall fee,
How I in Heav'n receiv'd fhall be;
Ye Angels! hear this too, and own

This Grace, before the Father's Throne. 14 If I fhould, thro' Chrift's Merit and Love, A Servant e'er so faithful prove ;

O'er all that's base the Vict'ry win; Nor ev'n till Death commit one Sin: 15 Yet will I, when I come to you, Nought think, how good I was and true, But here's a Sinner, who would fain "Thro' the Lamb'sRanfom,Entrance gain.' 16 There fings our Father Abraham, And all the Saints before the Lamb; And in their Song one plain may view, It ftands: That they were Sinners too. 17 If ask'd about my Wedding-dress, Without which there is no Access, I'll fay: I Jefus then put on, "When naked from the Fiend I ran.

18" I've kept with Care this fhining Dress,
"It has this choice peculiar Grace,
"That Chrift's unfeen specific Blood
"Preferves it ever fair and good.

19 Suppose, that next the Question were :
When in the World what didst Thou there?
I'd fay: “I thank my Lord, could I
"Good do, I did it willingly.

"And fince I knew, his precious Blood "Had Sin o'erwhelm'd with its pure Flood; "And that one need not yield Confent ; "This gave me Joy and fweet Content.

"If now there came a finful Luft,

"I thank'd my God, there was no Muft;
"I faid to Cov'toufnefs, Luft, Pride,
"For you my Lord was crucify'd.

"No Parley with the Foe I'd make, "But chofe the fhortest Course to take, "And fimply to my Lord complain; "Thus did I always Freedom gain. 23 "As Men are wont of Ghofts to say, "That by the Crofs they're driven away: "What God the Lord nor prais'd nor lov'd, "That by the Crofs I far remov'd."

24 Then will the holy Company
A great Rejoicing have o'er me;

T

And

And still more Joy to me to bring,
They full of Spirit will with me fing: +
25 All Praife and Honour doth pertain
Unto the Lamb; for He was flain,
And hath redeem'd us by His Blood,
And made us Kings and Priefs to God.
26 Now while in Life I'm yet confin'd,
So is it my whole Heart and Mind,
To Chriftians, Heathens, all and each,
This Point and only this to preach :

27

"That our for-ever-bleffed God "By his Son Fefu's Death and Blood, "Has fhewn his Love to fuch Degree, "As ne'er in Truth can fathom'd be."

28 Ye Children all in Grace's Fold,
You heartily intreat I would, .

Thro' all your Lives the Plan ne'er mifs,
But faithfully keep close to This.

ye,

29 And 'bove all, who Teachers are,
Nought you can do, (in Mem'ry bear)
Souls are ftill empty, void of Good,
Till you bring in th' Attoning-Blood.

30 O Jefu Chrift! all Praise to Thee,

That Thou a Man vouchfaf'dft to be;
And for each Soul, which Thou haft made,
Haft an Eternal Ransom paid.

+ Rev, v. 9, 10.
