31 O give us now, to fpeak Thy Word;
To all the Captives Hope afford,

That they, if to Thy Wounds they'll flee,
May find eternal Life in Thee.

32 O King of Glory, Chrift the Lord!
Thou're God's own Son, th' eternal Word;
Let all the World Thy Mercy fee,
And bless what folely cleaves to Thee.
33 Into Thy Wounds, while I am here,
I'll look, after my Grace's Share ;
And, when above, fhine in the Drefs
Of Thy rich Blood and Righteousness.

HE Crofs, the Crofs, O that's my
Gain!

Because on that, the Lamb was flain;
'Twas there my Lord was crucify'd;
'Twas there the Saviour for me dy'd.

2 What wondrous Thing could move Thy
Heart,

To take on Thee my Curfe and Smart ?
When Thou fore-kneweft I should be
So cold and negligent t'wards Thee.

3 The Caufe was Love, I fink with Shame
Before Thy facred Jefu's-Name,

That Thou should'ft bleed and flaughter'd be,

Because, because Thou lovedit me.

4 Thou loveft me: O boundless Grace!
Who can fuch wondrous Mercy trace ?
I, who unfaithful, foolish am,

Yet find Thee ftill a patient Lamb.
5 To Thy red Crofs I lift mine Eyes,
That is the Tree will make me wife ;
That that's a Tree of Knowledge good,
Evil was drown'd in Jefu's Blood.
6 The bloody Crofs, That bears a Fruit,
Which does poor hungry Sinners fuit ;
It is a Tree of Life for all,

Who're doom'd to Death in Adam's Fall..
7 See what a deep-dy'd red it bears!
Look how that Nail my Saviour tears;
Stain'd and befmear'd with Blood divine,
There hangs the King from David's Line.
8. Here will I ftay and gaze a while
On Thee, Thou Friend of Sinners vile;
I'll look and fee what I have done,
To God's eternal gracious Son.

9 Lord, what is Man, and what am I,

That Thou should'st fuch a Creature buy ;

And

And feal my Ranfom with Thy Blood,
Languishing, melting on the Wood.
10 Here is an Enfign on a Hill!
Come hither! Sinners, look your
To look afide is Pain and Lofs,
I'll glory only in the Cross.

Fill;

11 I'll live and dwell by this bleft Flood, The flowing Stream of Jefu's Blood; That Blood which he, in tender Love, To fhed, did leave His Throne above. 12 Here in a Glafs I fix my Eye, The Glory of the Lord t' efpy; 'Tis by beholding I fhall be Chang'd to his Image who lov'd me. 13 His Glory did the Lord proclaim, When Mofes pray'd to fee the fame : "Before Thee fhall my Goodness pass, "But Thou can'ft not behold my Face." 15 But we with open Face behold The Glory, which before was told, Should be reveal'd when Jefus dy'd; We look upon Him crucify'd,

16 No flaming Sword doth guard this Place, The bloody Crofs proclaims Free-Grace; No other Way can Heaven win,

All by the Crofs must enter in.

CXXXIII.

From the German.
No. 1546.

HE faithful Father Abraham,

With all who bore the Patriarch's

Name,

The Priests and Levites in their State,
The Watchmen at the Temple Gate,
2 The Fathers strong in Faith and bold,
With those who prophefy'd of old,
The ancient Tribe of Witnesses,
And Ifrael's fanctified Race,

3 They had nor knew no other God,
But Him who thro' his Death and Blood,
(As his dear Father's Pleasure was)

Did Penance for the Sinner's Cause.

4 The Lamb, the Church's Lord and Head, With whom we're so enamoured,

5

Him Abra'm and his Seed ador'd
As their one God and only Lord :

Who left his Father's Majefty,
And put on our Humanity,

He in the Covenant of old

Was as the Son of God foretold.

6 On this Account it is we read,
That Abra'm on His Day was glad;
And joy'd to view Him as his Lamb,
Bearing his Sins, and Guilt, and Shame.
7 Therefore they wish'd with thousand Tears,
Untill the num'rous Term of Years
Was ended, when th' eternal Son
Should ftoop, and leave His Father's
Throne,

8 That he thro' bleeding on the Tree
Might free them from their Misery,
For all their Sins a Ransom make,
And ev'ry Bond and Fetter break.

9 Now this whole Choir, with holy Shame,
Therefore adore their flaughter'd Lamb,
"And in their Song one plain may view,
"It stands, that they were Sinners too :"
10 That the Lamb brought them thro' with
Pow'r,

And open'd wide their Prifon-Door,

And touch'd them with his bleeding Love, And led them to the Realms above. II Therefore it ftands moft fure and plain, That the poor helpless Sinner-Train Now thro' the World difperft abroad, Hold Jefus as their Lord and God.
