2 The Water fpouting from Thy Side,
The Soldier's Spear had open'd wide;
That be my Bath, and let Thy Blood
Cleanse me, and bring me near to God.
3 The Blood-fweat trickling down thy Face,
Affure my Heart of purchas'd Grace
Thy Crofs, thy Suff'rings and thy Pain
My everlafting Strength remain.
4 Dear Jefu, grant this my Requeft,
Take, hide me quite within thy Breast;
And grant me in Thy Wounds to dwell,
Secure from all the Pow'rs of Hell.

HEY who know our Lord indeed,
Find a Help in all their Need;
They who clearly fee his Face,
See him full of mildeft Grace.

2 Hence they can with Jefus be
Just as with a Brother free;
They can tell Him all their Mind,
When they flip they find Him kind.
3 Yet the Souls who Jefus know
Sink before Him very low:

They who once have feen him clear
Much will to offend Him fear.

[blocks in formation]

4 But this

very Fear is fweet;

'Tis but falling at His Feet,

While His gentle Voice doth chide
Our Unfaithfulness and Pride.

5 O how wond'rous is our Lamb

To all those who know His Name!
Glad Abasement, awful Joy,
At one Glance our Heart employ.

HEY who little Children are,
Safe in Jefu's Love and Care;
By this Fruit their Faith do prove,
They each other truly love.
2 From their being join'd in One,
In the Faith of God's own Son,
Mighty Bleffings they expect;
Nor sweet Fellowship neglect.
3 None in his own Wisdom trusts,
None of his Attainments boasts, -
Each his Brother doth esteem,
No Self-love is found in them.

4 Their Delight is when they all
With one Voice on Jefus call;
And when fitly, without Strife,
Each his Duty does in Life.

Meek they are to all Mankind,
To good Offices inclin'd,
Ready, when revil'd, to blefs,
Studious of the public Peace.

Tender Pity, Love fincere
To each Soul of Man they bear;
And, as Chrift doth give them Light,
Order all their Steps aright.

7 Grant in us this Mind may be,
Jefu, from all Malice free:

While in Love we thus are join'd,
Thee ftill with us we fhall find

His tranfient World is not our Home,
No Soul finds here, or Reft, or Bliss,
The Man by this vain World o'ercome
Will of Salvation furely mifs.
Jefus alone yields Comfort true,

Jefus is Pleasure void of Pain,
His Love alone is ever new,

His Friendship's Ardours ftill remain. The fcorn'd felected Few thrice happy are, Who Jefu's sweeter, firmer Friendship share.

2 His Shame to all will be display'd,
However fpecious Here his Dress,
Who is not in the Robe array'd
Of Jefu's perfect Righteoufnefs.
Who of Chrift's Fulnefs ne'er receiv'd
Will tremble at the Judgment Day,
However righteous Here believ'd,

Then naked muft he go away.

Hafte then to Jefu's Wounds; thrice happy they

Who to the bleeding Wounds have found

HOU Friend of Sinners! hear my Cry,
And grant me my Requeft,

That in Thy Wounds I now may find
My everlasting Rest.

2 There is no Happiness or Peace
That can be found elsewhere,
In them alone my Life I'll feek,
In them Thy Love declare.
3 May I no more refift Thy Love,
No more Thy Spirit grieve,
But as a little Child become,
And fimply Thee believe.

4 Faith is Thy Gift, my dearest Lamb!
Thou'ft purchas'd it for me ;

From

From hence a Sinner's Right I claim,
Which is, to worship Thee.

To worship Thee who haft redeem'd
Sinners from endless Pain,

That they may know no other Thing,
But that a Lamb was flain.

6 Impress this deeply on my Breaft,
This Truth, That Thou haft died,
That in Thy Wounds with Confidence
I ever may abide.

Hou holy fpotlefs Lamb of God, Who left'ftThy glorious bless'd Abode In Love to Sinners vile,

To bleed for all loft Adam's Race,

Who all were curs'd, and dead and base,
Bound faft by Satan's Guile!

2 Thou for their Sake, who hated Thee,
Didft shed Thy Blood upon the Tree,
Thy Life for theirs didft give;

3

Thou bar'ft their Curfe, their Debt is paid,
Thy Soul for Sin an Off'ring made;

Thou dy'dft that they might live.

Thou Lamb haft bought them with Thy
Blood;

That Price accepted was as good
