By God for ever blefs'd;

No Wrath remains on any one,
That will but come unto his Son,
And take his Righteousness,

4 And now fhould any Doubt remain,
Behold the Lamb, for Sinners flain,
'Midft of the Throne is feen;
The Elders fall down at his Feet,
With a new Song of Praises sweet:
That he did them redeem.

5 O could I join this bleffed Choir,
With the fame Love and holy Fire,
How happy fhouid I be;
Since ev'ry Creature on the Earth
Should fing this Song of heav'nly Birth,
To him that made them free.

6 Then why not I, tho' I am Clay,
Since all my Sins are wafh'd away,
With his most precious Blood;
My dearest Lamb who dy'dft for me,
Make all my Heart both burn for Thee,
And tell Thy Love abroad.

7

Never may I depart from Thee,
Thou purchas'd haft this Liberty,

That I may keep Thy Grace;
Thy Wounds my Glory and my Strength,
My Refuge fure 'gainft Sin and Death,
My lafe abiding Place.

8 Still feed me with Thy living Flefh,
That Bread will my poor Soul refresh,
While I remain below;

Give me thy cleanfing Blood to drink,
Which freely for my Sins was fpilt,
And nought elfe may I know.

HOU Jefus art our King,
Thy ceafelefs Praise we fing:

Praile fhall our glad Tongue employ,
Praife o'erflow our grateful Soul,
While we vital Breath enjoy,
While eternal Ages roll.

2 Thou art th' eternal Light,

That fhin'ft in deepest Night:
Wond'ring gaz'd th' Angelic Train,

While Thou bow'dft the Heav'ns beneath,
God with God, wert Man with Man,
Man to fave from endless Death.

3 Thou for our Pain didft mourn,
Thou haft our Sicknefs born:
All our Sins on Thee were laid;
Thou with unexampled Grace,

[ocr errors]

All the mighty Debt haft paid,
Due from Adam's helpless Race.
4 Thou haft o'erthrown the Foe,
God's Kingdom fix'd below;
Conqu❜ror of all adverse Pow'r,

Thou Heav'n's Gates haft open'd wide;
Thou thine own doft lead fecure,
In Thy Crofs, and by Thy Side.

5

Enthron'd above yon Sky,

Thou reign'ft with God moft High. Proftrate at Thy Feet we fall:

Pow'r Supreme to Thee is giv'n;
Thee the righteous Judge of all,

Sons of Earth and Hofts of Heav'n.
6 Cherubs with Seraphs join,
And in Thy Praise combine :
All their Quires Thy Glories fing ;

Who fhall dare with Thee to vie?

Mighty Lord, eternal King,

Sov'reign both of Earth and Sky! 7 The venerable Train,

Patriarchs, First-born of Men;

And th' Apoftles of the Lamb,

By whofe Strength they faithful prov'd,

Join t' extol his facred Name,

Whom in Life and Death they lov’d.

8 The Church, thro' all her Bounds, With Thy high Praise refounds; Confeffors undaunted here,

Unafham'd proclaim their King; Children's feebler Voices there

To Thy Name Hofannahs fing.
9 'Midft Danger's blackeft frown,
Thee Hofts of Martyrs own:
Pain, and Shame alike they dare,
Firmly, fingularly good;
Glorying Thy Crofs to bear,

Till they feal their Faith with Blood
to Wide Earth's remoteft Bound
Full of Thy Praise is found:

And all Heav'n's eternal Day

With Thy ftreaming Glory flames

All Thy Foes fhall melt away,
From th' infufferable Beams.

11 O Lord, O God of Love,
Let us Thy Mercy prove!

King of all, with pitying Eye

Mark the Toil, the Pains we feel

Midft the Snares of Death we lie,
Midft the banded Pow'rs of Hell.
12 Arife, ftir up Thy Pow'r,
Thou deathlefs Conqueror !
Help us to obtain the Prize,

Help

Help us well to close our Race; That with Thee above the Skies, Endless Joys we may poffefs.

CXLIII.

From the German.

No. 1270.

Hou Lamb once flain! whofe flaming
Eyes

Sparkle with dazling Light;

How can a Sinner chufe but bow,
And fink beneath Thy Sight?

2 Ev'n finful Duft is now become
Thy own peculiar Spoil,

And Thine and mine are made one Heart,
Thro' Thy dear bloody Toil.

3 How did Love feize me, that pure Fire,
That flam'd within Thy Breaft,
When Thou, before Thy Father's Throne,
Wert pleas'd to name me blefs'd!

4 Scarce was the Work in Heaven feal'd,
But well I felt the Whole,
Thefweet Communion-Oil o'erfpread
My Spirit, Body, Soul.

So I became Thy juft Reward

Now deck Thy new made Throne,
