So throughly prov'd,

So griev'd, and yet fo lov'd!

My Heart's not mine, not mine; 'Tis Thine,

My Lamb once flain,

Thy Crofs, Thy Pain,
Thy Blood, Thy Toil,

Have claim'd it for their Spoil.

2 Thy bloody Sweat,

Which with fuch Heat

Did from Thee flow,

Bedew'd the Earth below:

Each Drop of which warm Flood
Of Blood,

Each Curfe hath drown'd,

That can be found

In all God's Book,

And to us Vengeance spoke...

3 Be that my Guide,

Thro' a World wide,
Where Chrift is nam'd,

Yet in the Heart blafphem'd!
Thou deareft, fweetest Heart,.
What Smart

Goes thro' the Whole

Of th' inmoft Soul,

When one conceives

How that the Saviour grieves?

That Teacher fure,

The Lamb reveres,
And inwardly declares ;
His fure Light makes appear
Most clear,

What in Heav'n's Book
For Sin is took :

And fays in brief,

The Sin is Unbelief.

The Lamb's sweet Art
Hath won my Heart ;
His Voice I prov'd,

I bow'd, believ'd and lov'd.
John pointed out the Lamb

That came;
There, there he is-

The Sp'rit fays, Yes

The Soul's in Fear

Then Jefu's Self draws near.

6 The piercing Look,

That deeply ftruck

Poor Peter's Heart,

That fhews Thee what Thou art;
The poor Soul owns its Cafe,
Says Yes-

It knows not how

To think or do,

Is loft, it cries,

But this the Lamb denies ;

7 Who, kind and mild,

.Says:

"Poor dear Child,

I have once died;

To thee Death's mifapply'd:
Now dies no Man of Course,
Or Force;

Who will not live,
Who will me grieve
Why they must die :

[ocr errors]

Such their own Wills destroy."

8 Let the World hear!

God's Son and Heir,

Who to us came,

And for us bore the Blame,

And truly thirty Year

Liv'd here,

Defpis'd and mean,

And then was flain :

The Ranfom He

For all the World and me.

9 Thereby I'll ftand

With Life in Hand:

Me Help afford

To bear this Witness, Lord;
That many may embrace
This Grace;

And

And this good News
Will we diffuse

In ev'ry Land,

The Lord will by us stand.

LXV.

1 L Amb, Lamb, Thou flaughter'd worthy.

Lamb!

Thou Saviour! Jefus is Thy Name,
Th' anointed Son of God:
Anointed to redeem loft Man,
To swallow up both Sin and Pain
By fhedding of Thy Blood.

2 Thou art our great High-prieft indeed,
Thou didst for all poor Sinners bleed
When on Mount Calvary;

'Twas there Thou mad'ft a Way for all
Who Sinners were thro' Adam's Fall,
A Way to come to Thee.

3 No other Way there is but this
To endless Happiness and Blifs;
No other, but Thy Death:
On that then may all meditate,
And patiently, as Sinners, wait,
Till Thou Thy Spirit breathe.

4 Lord we are Thine, fince Thou haft died, And for our Sins haft fatisfy'd,

When

When on the fhameful Crofs:
To Thee then only may we live,
And our whole Hearts up to Thee give,
And count all elfe but Lofs.

LXVI.

Lamb, what Wondershaft Thou wrought?

Thou haft Sinners dearly bought:

Helpless, vile, and thanklefs we, We have Right to come to Thee. 2 Doom'd by Law to endless Pains, Captive held by thousand Chains, Lamb! One Thing has brought us thro'; 'Twas Thy being flaughter'd fo.

3 Who then would not come to Thee?
Who need fear he loft fhould be?
Ev'ry one that comes Thou tak’ft,
Ev'ry Yoke and Chain thou break'ft.
4 Sin and Mis'ry, Guilt and Fear,
Stop Thee not, but bring Thee near:
Go, ye Sinners; this I know,

I have

- ye may find it fo.

5 O that all my Words would hear, would Sinners lend an Ear! Would they go, they all would find That He cafteth none behind.
