INSTRUCTION ON THE EXAMINATION
IN PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
EACH child should be tried in two or more places in this book.
Thus an examination in the subjects of this Standard may be conducted as follows:
Let the children in the Standard be formed into a line according to their places in the schedule, having in their hands the slates on which they have done their sums and transcriptions. Each child as he comes up, hands his slate to the examiner, who gives him this book open and points where he is to read. While listening to the reading, the examiner can mark the arithmetic and writing on the schedule. He will next turn over a few pages of the book and point where the child is to read again. The child will then give up the book and return to his place.
