he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done, he shall live. 17 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? * 18 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousmess, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live * All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. 19 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in it; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 20 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 21 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 22 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved, touching his vineyard. My well-beloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill. 2 And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a wine-press therein; and helooked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. 3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. 4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it wherefore when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? 5 And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down. 6 And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged: but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. 7 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgement, but behold, oppression; for righteousness, but behold, a cry.
* 8. Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear towards me is taught by the precept of men: 9 Thereforebehold, I willproceed to do a marvellous work amongst this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder; for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid. 10 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 11 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth, I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. * 12 As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way, and live : turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 13 Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be
able to live for his righteous. ness in the day that he sinneth.
14 When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousness shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed he shall die for it. *
15 Again, when I say unto the
wicked, Thou shalt surely die: ’
if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right; 16 If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life withoutcommitting iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die. •. 17 None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live. 18 Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal. 19 When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby. 20 But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby. 21 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways, and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.

Section I.-Commandments of God.
LESSON XXXVII. GOD spake all these words,
saying; 2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage: 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation, and shewing mercy unto thousands, of them that love me and keep my commandments. 6 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless, that taketh his name in vain. 7 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. [Keep the Sabbath day to sanctify it as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.]*
8 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 9 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, northy stranger that is within thy gates: [that thy manservant and thy maid-servant may rest as well as thou.] 10 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. [And remember that thou wasta servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lörd thy God brought thee out thence by a mighty hand and a stretched-out arm; therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.] ‘s 11 Honour thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long [and that it may go well with thee] in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. 12 Thou shalt not kill. 13 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 14 Thou shalt not steal. 15 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 16 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shaltnot covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's. * 17 I am the Lord your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgements, and do them. 18 You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes which he hath commanded you. 19 And yeshall do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord. * 20 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true judgement, and shew mercy and compassion every man to his brother: 21 And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart. 22 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour: execute the judgement of truth and peace in your gates; 23 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord. 24 Seek good, and not evil; that ye may live: and so the Lord the God of hosts shall be with you. 25 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgement in the gate : 26 For the Lord your God is

God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward. 27 He doth execute the judgement of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. 28 Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. "[29 Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. 30 He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things which thine eyes have Seen. 31 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between our eyes. 32 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 33 Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and observe to do all the words of his law : 34 And that their children which have not known any thing, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God. of 35 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy Inouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 36 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater; 37 So shall my word be that
goeth forth out of my mouth : it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
I AM the Almighty God, walk before me, and be ye perfect. 2 Sanctify yourselves, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God. 3 And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them : I am the Lord which sanctify you. 4. Wherefore ye shall do my statutes, and keep my judgements, and do them. 5 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary ; I am the Lord. 6 Yeshalldo my judgements, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein; I am the Lord your God. 7 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgements: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the
Lord, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy. 8 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the Lord your God. 9 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another. 10 And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord. 11 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him : the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night, until the morning. 12 Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling-block before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the Lord. 13 Ye shall do no unrighteousnessinjudgement: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour. 14 Thou shalt not go up and down as a tale-bearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I am the Lord. 15 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. 16 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord. 17 Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him.
