Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servants and to their supplication, O Lord our God; To hearken unto the cry and the prayer: which thy servants pray before thee. What prayer or supplication soever shall be made of any man or of all thy people Israel; When every one shall know his own sore and his own grief and shall spread forth his hands in this house ; Let thine eyes be open and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place; Hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven and when thou hearest, forgive. : HYMN XV. Humble yourselves therefore in the sight of the LORD: and he shall lift you up; 4 For whosoever shall exalt himself shall Knowest thou not this of old : since man was placed upon the earth, That the triumphing of the wicked is short and the joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment? Though his excellency mount up to the heavens and his head reach unto the clouds, Yet shall he perish for ever: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he? He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea he shall be chased away as a vision of the night. The eye also which saw him shall see him no more neither shall his place any more behold him. The increase of his house shall depart : and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath. This is the portion of a wicked man from God and the heritage appointed unto him by God. : HYMN XVII. The Sixth Sunday after the Epiphany. Micah vi. 6-8. Wherewith shall I come before the LORD: and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burntofferings with calves of a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my first-born for my transgression the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He hath showed thee, O man, what is good and what doth the LORD require of thee, But to do justly and love mercy and walk humbly with thy God? HYMN XVIII. Septuagesima Sunday. 1 Prov. xxix. 26. 2 Prov. xviii. 10. 4 2 Kings vi. 16. 1 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. 2 The name of the LORD is a strong tower the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. 3 us? 4 If God be for us who can be against They that be with us are more than they that be with them. 5 There is no wisdom nor understanding : nor counsel against the LORD. The horse is prepared against the day of battle but safety is of the Lord. 6 : Be not afraid of sudden fear neither of the desolation of the wicked when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence: and shall keep thy foot from being taken. |
