And this spake he not of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; and not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. John xi. 50-52. All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God: being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God: to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness, that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

sin unto salvation. He. ix. 28.
Ye were
not redeemed with corruptible things, as
silver, and gold, from your vain conversation
received by tradition from your fathers; but
with the precious blood of Christ, as of a
lamb without blemish, and without spot. 1 Pe.
i. 18, 19. Christ also suffered for us; who
his ownself bare our sins in his own body on
the tree, that we being dead to sins should
live unto righteousness, by whose stripes ye
were healed. 1 Pe. ii. 24. Christ also hath
once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust,
that he might bring us to God, being put to
death in the flesh, but quickened by the
Spirit. 1 Pe. iii. 18. Grace be unto you,
from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness,
and the first begotten of the dead, and the
prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him
that loved us, and washed us from our sins
in his own blood, to him be glory and do-
minion for ever, Amen. Re. i. 5. And
when "he" ("the Lamb" who stood in the
midst of the elders) had taken the book (sealed
with seven seals), the four beasts, and the
four and twenty elders fell down before the
Lamb, having, every one of them, harps, and
golden vials full of odours, which are the
prayers of saints. And they sung a new
song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the
book, and to open the seals thereof; for thou
wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by
thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue,
and people, and nation. Re. v. 8, 9.

For many.] This is my blood (said Jesus, when instituting his holy supper) of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Mat. xxvi. 28. This is my blood of the New Testament which is Ro. shed for many. Mar. xiv. 24. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one, many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation; but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one, much more they which receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one Christ Jesus. Therefore, as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation, even so by the righteousness of one, the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Ro. v. 14-19. Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many. He. ix.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. Ep. i. 7. Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us, an offering, and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour. Ep. v. 2. There is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time. 1 Ti. ii. 5, 6. The grace of God, that bringeth salvation, hath appeared to all men; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. In that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. Is. xxix. 18. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing; for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. Is. xxxv. 5, 6. And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not, I will lead them in paths that they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. Hear, ye deaf, and look, ye blind, that ye may see. Is. xlii. 16. 18. He that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them. Is. xlix. 10. We (the Jews) grope for the wall like the blind; and we grope as if we had no eyes; we stumble at noon-day, as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men. Is. lix. 10. The spirit of the Lord is upon me, he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captive, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn. Is. Ixi. 1, 2. See verse 29. There was delivered to "him" ("Jesus") the book of the prophet Esaias; and when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind; to set at liberty them that are bruised. And when "he" ("the_angel") saw that he prevailed not against him (Jacob), he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel; for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. Ge. xxxii. 25-29. Though “he” ("the friend to whom his neighbour goeth at midnight to borrow three loaves of bread") will not rise and give “him” (“ that asketh") because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you (said Jesus), Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. Lu. xi. 8-10. And he (Jesus) spake a

And he would not for a while; but afterward, he said within himself, Though I fear not God nor regard man, yet, because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. Wherefore, in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. He. ii. 17. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
