With the fame view of fhewing the refémblance of the civil conftitutions given to the two provinces of Quebec and New York by his Majesty's commiffions and inftructions to his governours of them, I shall likewife infert the following copy of a grant of lands in the province of New York made in pursuance of his Majefty's instructions for that province, which will be found to be but little different from the grants of land in the province of Quebec that have been herein above recited.

patented lands there; which faid tract or parcel of land is part of a tract of land purchased by the faid A, B, and others, of the native Indian proprietors thereof, as appears by the Indian deed filed in the fecretary's office bearing date the fixth day of June one thousand seven hundred and fixty-four; which faid tract or parcel of land begins at the north-east corner of the northernmost of two tracts of land formerly granted to Lambertus Starnbergher and Adam Starnbergher; and runs from thence north, twenty-feven degrees east, ninety-two chains; then fouth, fixty-fix degrees eaft, one hundred and fifty-five chains; then fouth, thirty-one degrees eaft, two huñdred and ten chains; then fouth, thirty-two degrees weft, two hundred and eighty-four chains; then north, fifty degrees weft, two hundred and eighty chains; then fouth, twenty-feven degrees weft, one hundred and fifty-four chains; then north, fifty-nine degrees weft, one hundred and thirty-feven chains; then north, twenty-five degrees eaft, twenty-eight chains, to the fouthermoft of the faid two tracts of land granted to the faid Lambertus and Adam Starnbergher; and then, along the foutherly and eafterly bounds of the faid fouthernmost tract, to a tract of land granted to Johannes Lawyer and Philip Bergh; and then, along the foutherly, easterly, and northerly bounds of this last-mentioned tract, as they run, to, the first mentioned tract granted to the faid Lambertus and Adam Starnbergher; and then, along the eaft bounds of this laft-mentioned tract, north, twenty-five degrees eaft, one hundred and forty chains, to the place where this tract of land first began; containing eight thousand acres of land and the ufual allowance for highways.

And in fetting out the faid tract, or parcel, of land, our faid commiffioners have had regard to the profitable and unprofitable acres, and have taken care that the length thereof doth not extend along the banks of any river otherwife than is conformable to our faid royal inftructions, as by a certificate thereof under their hands, bearing date the eighth day of this inftant month of July, and entered on record in our fecretary's office for our faid province, may. more fully appear.

Which faid tract of land, fet out as aforefaid, according to our faid royal inftructions, we being willing to grant to the faid petitioners,

KNOW YE that, of our fpecial grace, certain knowledge, and meer motion, we have given, granted, ratified, and confirmed, above described, and do by these prefents for us, our heirs and fucceffors, give, grant, ratify, and confirm, unto them the faid A, B, C, D, &c. their heirs and affigns for ever, all that the tract, or parcel of land aforefaid, fet out, abutted, bounded, and defcribed in manner and form as above-mentioned, together with all and fingular the tenements, hereditaments, emoluments, and appurtenances thereunto belonging, or appertaining: and alfo all our estate, right, title, intereft, poffeffion, claim, and demand whatsoever, of, in, and to, the fame lands and premises and every part and parcel thereof; ex- Refervation of cept and always reserved out of this our prefent grant unto us, our gold and silver; heirs and fucceffors for ever *, all mines of gold and filver, and also all white or other forts of pine trees fit for mafts, of the growth of twenty-four inches diameter and upwards at twelve inches from the earth, for mafts for the royal navy of us, our heirs and fucceffors.

Kent, within our kingdom of Great Britain; yielding, rendering, and paying therefore, yearly and every year for ever, unto us, our heirs and fucceffors, at our custom-houfe in our city of New York, unto our, or their, collector or receiver-general there for the time being, on the Feast of the Annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary, commonly called Lady-Day, the yearly rent of two fhillings and fix pence fterling * for each and every hundred acres of the above granted lands, and fo in proportion for any leffer quantity thereof (faving and except for fuch part of the faid lands allowed for highways as above-mentioned) in lieu and stead of all other rents, fervices, dues, duties, and demands whatsoever for the hereby granted Erection of the lands and premises, or any part thereof.
