Praises to the incarnate Son.

FOR a thousand seraph tongues
To bless the' incarnate Word!
O for a thousand thankful songs
In honour of my Lord!

C. M.

2 Come, tune afresh your golden lyres,
Ye angels round the throne;

Ye saints, in all your sacred choirs,
Adore the' eternal Son.

3d P. M. 4 6s & 2 Ss.

Rejoice evermore, and in everything give thanks.

EJOICE, the Lord is King;

Your Lord and King adore:
Mortals, give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore;
Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice.

2 Jesus, the Saviour, reigns,
The God of truth and love;
When he had purged our stains,
He took his seat above;
Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice.

3 His kingdom cannot fail,

He rules o'er earth and heaven;
The keys of death and hell

Are to our Jesus given;

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice.

[graphic]

3 There we shall see his face,
And never, never sin;

There, from the rivers of his grace,
Drink endless pleasures in:
Yea, and before we rise

To that immortal state,

The thoughts of such amazing bliss
Should constant joys create.

4 The men of grace have found
Glory begun below:

Celestial fruit on earthly ground
From faith and hope may grow:
Then let our songs abound,

And every tear be dry:

We're marching through Immanuel's ground To fairer worlds on high.

9th P. M. 87, 87, 87, 87.

Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.
YOME, thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace:
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above:
Praise the mount-I'm fix'd upon it;
Mount of thy redeeming love!

2 Here I'll raise mine Ebenezer ;
Hither by thy help I'm come;
And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed his precious blood.

3 0! to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrain'd to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wand'ring heart to thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it-
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for thy courts above.

Walking with God.

ALK with us, Lord, thyself reveal,

TALK

[ocr errors]

Speak to our hearts, and let us feel
The kindling of thy love.

2 With thee conversing, we forget
All time, and toil, and care:
Labour is rest, and pain is sweet,
If thou, my God, art here.

C. M.

3 Here then, my God, vouchsafe to stay, And bid my heart rejoice;

My bounding heart shall own thy sway, And echo to thy voice.

4 Thou callest me to seek thy face;-
'Tis all I wish to seek;

To' attend the whispers of thy grace,
And hear thee inly speak.

5 Let this my every hour employ,
Till I thy glory see;

Enter into my Master's joy,

And find my heaven in thee.

903

Triumphant joy.

The life of my delights,
God, the spring of all my joys,

The glory of my brightest days,
And comfort of my nights:-

C. M.

2 In darkest shades, if thou appear,
My dawning is begun;

Thou art my soul's bright morning star,
And thou my rising sun.

3 The opening heavens around me shine
With beams of sacred bliss,
If Jesus shows his mercy mine,
And whispers I am his.

4 My soul would leave this heavy clay
At that transporting word,
Run up with joy the shining way,
To see and praise my Lord.

5 Fearless of hell and ghastly death,
I'd break through every foe;
The wings of love and arms of faith
Would bear me conqu'ror through.

904

Creating and redeeming love.

FATHER, in whom we live,

In whom we are, and move,
The glory, power, and praise receive
Of thy creating love.

2 Let all the angel throng

Give thanks to God on high, While earth repeats the joyful song, And echoes through the sky.

3 Incarnate Deity,

Let all the ransom'd race
Render in thanks their lives to thee,
For thy redeeming grace.

4 The grace to sinners show'd,
Ye heavenly choirs proclaim,
And cry,-Salvation to our God,
Salvation to the Lamb!

S. M.
