Let the word of God dwell in you richly in all wisdom; Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Cor. xiv. 40. LONDON: HAMILTON, ADAMS, AND CO., PATERNOSTER ROW. 1858. 147. c. 253. PREFACE. THIS Course of Singing Psalms was drawn up in 1820, for the use of three Churches,* where it has been, ever since, regularly used. It was made on a plan recommended by Bishop Gibson about one hundred and thirty years ago, in a tract on the "Excellent Use of Psalmody." The arrangement has been much approved of, as according well with the Services, and as giving a more real meaning to this part of Divine Worship. A New Edition being called for, it has been determined to make it public, adding a few other Psalms and Hymns for special occasions, in which the Collection, in its original state, was considered defective.
