Him. God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."

What an important lesson is this for us! The soul of man is the true temple of God. We must worship God from the very bottom of our hearts, for He is present every where. We must be sincere in what we say in our prayers; for God hears all we say our words must come from the heart, and we must try to live as we pray. All other worship is hypocrisy.

The woman told Jesus that she knew the Messiah was to come, and that He would teach all things.

Jesus replied, "I that speak unto thee am He." Just at this moment the disciples came with the food they had bought, and they wondered to see Jesus talking with this woman.

The poor woman was full of joy at what Jesus had told her. She put down

her water-pot, and ran as fast as she could to the town to tell her neighbours what she had heard. She was the first person who had the happiness of hearing from the lips of Jesus Himself that He was the Messiah. God always teaches the truth to those who seek it sincerely.

The disciples now offered some food to Jesus; but He said, "I have meat to eat that ye know not of. My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work."

Jesus gave up all to do the will of His heavenly Father. If we would be His disciples, we must follow His example and do so too.

When the people of the town heard what the woman said, they went out and begged the Saviour to come into the city and stop with them. Our Saviour was

always wishing to do men good; so He went and stayed with them two days. He spent this time in teaching them divine truth; and many of them believed Him to be the Saviour.

Happy are all those who believe, love, and obey Jesus, without having seen Him.

THE Saviour went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. On the Sabbath-day He went into the synagogue and stood up to read. They gave Him the book of Isaiah the prophet. He opened it and read these beautiful words: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath appointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He hath sent

led Him to the edge of a high rock, on which the city stood, and tried to throw Him off; but Jesus passed through them all and went away. Thus the wicked people of Nazareth rejected their Saviour.

18. THE MIRACULOUS DRAUGHT OF FISHES.

ONE day Jesus stood by the lake of Gennesareth; and a great number of people came to see and hear Him. There were two ships close by the shore; one belonged to Peter and his brother Andrew, and the other to James and John; they were busy mending their nets. When Jesus saw the people crowd about Him so much, He got into Simon's boat, and asked him to push it away from the land. Simon obeyed joyfully; and Jesus then preached to the people. When He had finished, He told Peter to go further from
