FORMS of Family Prayer are already so numerous, that some apology may be deemed necessary for adding to their number. But, excellent as many of them are, some are too long, and some too abstruse for the mixed assembly of which almost every household consists, where the majority is usually composed of children and the unlearned.

Whether the compiler has succeeded in accomplishing so desirable an object in the present selection, must be left to the test of experience, as she lays no claim to originality, but has freely borrowed from every selection and every author which seemed likely to suit her purpose; and now commits it to the great Hearer of prayer, imploring him to bless this humble endeavour to advance his glory and the Redeemer's kingdom.

SUNDAY.-First Week.

MORNING.

O GOD, who art rich in mercy to all that call upon thee, and who hast promised that none shall seek thy face in vain: help us, at the beginning of another Sabbath, to renew our requests unto thee, and to record our sense of mercies past. We approach thee, O Father, as the supreme and unchangeable God: thy goings are of old from everlasting to everlasting: thy counsels reach from eternity to eternity, and embrace all worlds in their operation. Things secret belong unto thyself-things revealed belong to us and all mankind. May we learn, with child-like docility, the lessons of divine instruction contained in thy word, and proceed on the faithfulness of its sayings ; that through faith in Christ Jesus, we may become wise unto salvation.

O thou, who hast separated this day to holy uses, to the rest of man, to the comfort of saints, and to the honour and glory of thy name, grant us the comfort of thy Holy Spirit, and make us grateful for the privilege of seeing one more of the days of
