The Covenant God.

THE God of Abram praise,
Who reigns enthron'd above;
Ancient of everlasting days,

And God [of grace] of love!
Jehovah, great I AM!

By earth and heaven confess'd,
I bow and bless the sacred name,
For ever [ever] bless'd.

The God of Abram praise,
At whose supreme command,
From earth I rise, and seek the joys
At his right hand:
I'd all on earth forsake,

Its wisdom, fame, and power:
And Him my only portion make,
My shield and tower.

3 The God of Abram praise,
Whose all-sufficient grace
Shall guide me all my happy days,
In all his ways:

4

He calls a worm his friend,
He calls himself my God!

2

And he shall save me to the end,
Thro' Jesus' blood.

He by himself hath sworn;
I on his oath depend;

I shall, on eagles' wings upborne,
To heaven ascend;

I shall behold his face,

I shall his power adore,
And sing the wonders of his grace
For evermore!

PART THE SECOND.

And earth and hell withstand,

With peace and plenty blest;

And endless rest:

There milk and honey flow,
And oil and wine abound,
And trees of life for ever grow,
harcy
With mercy crown'd.

There dwells the Lord our king,
The Lord our righteousness!
Triumphant o'er the world and sin,
The Prince of Peace,

On Sion's sacred height,

The ransom'd nations bow}⠀
Before the Saviour's face, Tur/
Joyful their radiant crowns they throw,
O'erwhelm'd with grace:

He shews his scars of love;
They kindle to a flame,

And sound through all the worlds above

The slaughter'd Lambd

The whole triumphant host

Give thanks to God on high,
Hail, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

They ever cry; Takı

Hail, Abram's God and mine!

I join the heavenly lays;

All might and majesty are thine, M

1 MY God, the covenant of thy love

Abides for ever sure;

And in its matchless grace I feel
My happiness secure.

2 What tho' my house be not with thee
As nature could desire!
To nobler joys than nature gives,
Thy servants all aspire.

3 Since thou, the everlasting God,
My father art become!?
Jesus, my guardian and my friend,
And heaven my final home;

4 I welcome all thy sov'reign will,
For all that will is love;

And when I know not what thou dost,
I'll wait the light above.

5 Thy covenant the last accent claims
Of this poor faltering tongue;
And that shall the first notes employ
Of my celestial song.

I NOW begin the heavenly theme,
Sing aloud in Jesus name!

Ye,, who his salvation prove,
Triumph in redeeming love.
2 Ye, who see the Father's grace
Beaming in the Saviour's face,
As to Canaan on ye move,
Praise and bless redeeming love.
3 Mourning souls, dry up your tears;
Banish all your guilty fears;
See your guilt and curse remove,
Cancell'd by redeeming love.
4 Ye, alas! who long have been
Willing slaves to death and sin, I
Now from bliss no longer rove;
Stop and taste redeeming love.
5 Welcome all by sin opprest,
Welcome to his sacred rest;
Nothing brought him from above,
Nothing but redeeming love. Y

When we to his glory come,

70 L. M. Winchester 137. Rothwell 174. Redemption by Christ alone, 1 Pet, i, 18, 19. {

1 ENSLAVED by sin, and bound in chains, Beneath its dreadful tyrant sway,

And doomed to everlasting pains,
We wretched guilty captives lay.

2 Nor gold nor gems could buy our peace; Nor the whole world's collected store Suffice to purchase or release;

A thousand worlds were all too poor.
3 Jesus, the Lord, the mighty God, mend
An all-sufficient ransom paid;
Invalu'd price! his precious blood,
For vile rebellious traitors shed.
4 Jesus the sacrifice became
To rescue guilty souls from hell:
The spotless, bleeding, dying Lamb
Beneath avenging justice fell.
5 Amazing goodness! love divine!
O may our grateful hearts adore
The matchless grace; nor yield to sin,
Nor wear its cruel fetters more!
6 Dear Saviour, let thy love pursue
The glorious work it has begun:
Each secret lurking foe subdue,
And let our hearts be thine alone.

STEELE.

... Finished Redemption.

1 HARK! the voice of love and mercy Sounds aloud from Calvary!'

See, it rends the rocks asunder,
Shakes the earth, and veils the sky!
It is finish'd!

Hear the dying Saviour cry!

2 It is finish'd!-0 what pleasure
Do these charming words afford!
Heavenly blessings without measure
Flow to us from Christ the Lord:
It is finish'd!-

Saints the dying words record.
