Let there be no strife.-verse 8.

another.

Love lays her own advantage by,
And seeks her neighbour's good,
So God's own Son came down to die,
And bought our souls with blood.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.-I JOHN iv. II.

Evening.

EPHESIANS iv. 1-6.

May the grace of Christ our Saviour,
And the Father's boundless love,
With the Holy Spirit's favour,

Rest upon us from above!

Thus may we abide in union

With each other and the Lord;
And possess, in sweet communion,
Joys which earth cannot afford.

King of Righteousness,

[ocr errors]

King of

Peace. See HEB. vii. 1-3; Ps. cx. 4.

Before the throne of God above

I have a strong, a perfect plea; A great HIGH PRIEST whose name is love, Who ever lives and pleads for me. When Satan tempts me to despair, And tells me of the guilt within, Upward I look, and see Him there, Who made an end of all my sin. Evening.

HEBREWS vii. 17-28.

Behold Him there! the bleeding Lamb!
My perfect, spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable "I AM,"

The King of glory and of grace.

He shall be a priest upon His throne.ZECH. vi. 12, 13.

Wherefore HE IS ABLE also to save them TO THE UTTERMOST that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.-HEB. vii. 25.

JANUARY 15.

I am thy shield and thy exceeding great reward.

Morning.

GENESIS XV.

The Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.-Ps. lxxxiv. 11.

The God of Abraham praise,

At whose supreme command,
From earth I rise, and seek the joys
At His right hand.

I all on earth forsake,

Its wisdom, fame, and power,
And Him my only portion make,
My shield and tower.

Evening.

LUKE i. 67-79. ; note verses 73-75.
The God of Abraham praise,

Whose all-sufficient grace

Shall guide me through life's pilgrimage

In all his ways.

He calls a worm His friend,

He calls Himself my God!

And He shall save me to the end,

Through Jesus' blood.

Our soul waiteth for the Lord; He is our HELP and our SHIELD.-Ps. xxxiii. 20.

JANUARY 16.

Thou God seest me.

Morning.

GENESIS xvi.; JOB xxxi. 4; xxxiv. 21.

And then I feel that He
(Remembered or forgot),
The Lord, is never far from me,
Though I perceive Him not.
In darkness, as in light,

Hidden alike from view,

I sleep, I wake, as in His sight,
Who looks all nature through.

Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear Him; upon them that hope in His mercy.-PSALM Xxxiii. 18.

Evening.

PSALM CXxxix. 1-12.

All that I am, have been,
All that I yet may be,

He sees as He has always seen,
And shall for ever see.

How shall I meet His eyes?

Mine on the Cross I cast,

And own my life a Saviour's prize,
Mercy from first to last.

JANUARY 17.

Have faith in God.

Morning.

GENESIS xvii.

Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. And he received the SIGN of circumcision, a SEAL of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised.-ROM. iv. 3, II.

For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision
availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but
FAITH which worketh by love.-GAL. v. 6.
Faith is not what we see or feel,
It is a simple TRUST

In what the God of love has said
Of JESUS as "the Just."

Lord increase our faith.-LUKE xvii. 5.

Evening.

ROMANS iv.; note verses 20-25.

Because the sinless Saviour died
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God the Just is satisfied
To look on Him, and pardon me.
