AUGUST 13.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Morning.

ISAIAH Xxxiii. 13-24.

Note verses 17, 24.

How blest are they who see His face,
And gaze upon His glory near ;

Their nature pure, and heaven their place, They feel no want, they know no fear. They shall see His face, and His name shall be in their foreheads.-REV. xxii. 4.

Evening.

I JOHN iii. 1-3.
PSALM xvi. II.

A day, I hope, will come when I,
Even I, though now so poor and vile,
Shall see my Saviour's glory nigh,
And prove that heaven is in His smile.
Till then I would His image trace,
And copy what I deem so fair;

In heaven I hope to see His face,

His people shall be like Him there!

As for me, I will behold Thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake with Thy likeness.-Ps. xvii. 15.

AUGUST 14.

O Lord, revive Thy work!

Morning.

ISAIAH xliv. 1-8.
PSALM lxviii. 9, 10.

O let my soul be watered
With showers from above,
That I may show Thy praises,
And triumph in Thy love.

Wilt thou not REVIVE US AGAIN : that Thy people may rejoice in Thee?-Ps. lxxxv. 6.

ASK YE OF THE LORD RAIN.-See ZECH. X. 1.

Evening.

I THESSALONIANS i.

"Revive Thy work, O Lord,"
Give power to Thy word;
Grant that Thy blessed Gospel may
In living faith be heard.

"Revive Thy work, O Lord,"

Give pentecostal showers;
The glory shall be all Thine own,
The blessing, Lord, be ours.

THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING. -See EZEK. xxxiv. 26.

AUGUST 15.

My soul shall make her boast in the Lord.

Morning.
ISAIAH liv.

This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord. I AM THY PART AND THINE INHERITANCE.-NUMB. xviii. 20.

Whate'er may change, in Him no change is seen,

A glorious sun, that wanes not, nor declines : Above the clouds and storms He walks serene, And sweetly on His people's darkness shines: All may depart-I fret not nor repine,

While I my Saviour's am, and HE IS MINE. -I COR. iii. 21-23.

Evening.

HEBREWS vi.

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in His excellent word; What more can He say than to you He hath

said,

You who unto JESUS for refuge have fled? The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose, He will not, He will not desert to His foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavour to shake.

He'll never, no never, no NEVER, forsake. -HEB. xiii. 5.

AUGUST 16.

I know their sorrows.

Morning.

ISAIAH lxiii.; note verses 7-9.

He who for men their surety stood,
And poured on earth His precious blood,
Pursues in heaven His mighty plan,
The Saviour and the Friend of man.

In every pang that rends the heart,
The "Man of Sorrows" bears a part;
He sympathizes with our grief,
And to the sufferer sends relief.

For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is ABLE TO SUCCOUR them that are tempted.-HEB. ii. 18.

Evening.

HEBREWS V. I-IO.

Jesus my all in all Thou art ;
!
My rest in toil, my ease in pain;
The med'cine of my broken heart;

In storms my peace; in loss my gain;
To me, with Thy dear name, are given
Pardon, and holiness, and heaven.

earth.

Morning.

ISAIAH lxv. 17-25.

The whole creation groans,
And waits to hear Thy voice,
Which shall restore her comeliness,
And make her wastes rejoice.
Come, Lord, and wipe away

The curse, the sin, the stain,
And make this blighted earth of ours
Thine own fair world again.
Come, then, Lord Jesus, come!

Evening.

-REV. iii. II.

2 PETER iii.; note verses 10-14. What kind of persons should they be Whose names appear enrolled above? The people whom the Lord makes free, To whom He manifests His love? What kind of persons should they be? How blameless should their lives appear? Who hope their Lord in heaven to see, And dwell with Him for ever there.

Every man that hath this hope in him PURIFIETH HIMSELF, even as HE IS PURE. -I JOHN iii. 3.
