8s, 7s, & 4.

Saints and Sinners Judged.

1. DAY of judgment! day of wonders!
Hark! the trumpet's awful sound,

[ocr errors]

Louder than ten thousand thunders,
Shakes the vast creation round:
How the summons

Will the sinner's heart confound!

2. See the Judge, our nature wearing,
Clothed in majesty divine;

You, who long for his appearing,

Then shall say, "This God is mine!"
Gracious Saviour!

Own me in that day for thine.
3. At his call the dead awaken,

Rise to life from earth and sea;
All the powers of nature, shaken
By his looks, prepare to flee :
Careless sinner!

What will then become of thee?
4. But to those who have confessed,
Loved, and served the Lord below,
He will say, "Come near, ye blessed,
See the kingdom I bestow !

182.

You for ever

Shall my love and glory know.

The Voice of Mercy.

1. HEAR, O sinner! mercy hails
you;
Now with sweetest voice she calls;
Bids you haste to seek the Saviour,
Ere the hand of justice falls:
Hear, O sinner!

'Tis the voice of mercy calls.
2. See the storm of vengeance gathering
O'er the path you dare to tread !
Hark! the awful thunder rolling
Loud and louder o'er your head!
Turn, O sinner!

Lest the lightning strike you dead.
3. Haste, O sinner! to the Saviour;
Seek his mercy while you may ;
Soon the day of grace is over,
Soon your life will pass away:
Haste, O sinner!

You must perish if you stay.

Sun, and moon, and stars de-cay, Time shall soon this earth remove;

Pilgrim's Song.

1. RISE, my soul, and stretch thy wings,
Thy better portion trace;
Rise from transitory things,

Toward heaven, thy native place:
Sun, and moon, and stars decay,
Time shall soon this earth remove;
Rise, my soul, and haste away,
To seats prepared above.

2. Rivers to the ocean run,

Nor stay in all their course;
Fire ascending seeks the sun,-
Both speed them to their source;
So a soul that's born of God,

Pants to view his glorious face;
Upward tends to his abode,
To rest in his embrace.

3. Cease, ye pilgrims, cease to mourn,
Press onward to the prize;
Soon the Saviour will return,
Triumphant in the skies:
Yet a season, and you know

Happy entrance will be given;
All our sorrows left below,

And earth exchanged for heaven. Cennick.

Prayer for Purity.

1. GOD of my salvation hear

And help me to believe;

Simply do I now draw near,
Thy blessing to receive:
Full of guilt alas! I am,

To thy wounds for refuge flee;
Friend of sinners, spotless Lamb,
Thy blood was shed for me.
2. Saviour, from thy wounded side
I never will depart;
Here will I my spirit hide,
Till I am pure in heart;
Till my place above I claim,
Only this shall be my plea,

Friend of sinners, spotless Lamb,
Thy blood was shed for me.
