I am the eldest daughter of a very numerous family, and received my education in the paternal houfe, under the infpection of one of the most excellent of mothers, to whofe inceflant care and admirable example I owe the foundation of any merit I may poffefs. From my carlieft years he taught me the habit of induftry, and employed me whilft a child to affift her in inftructing my younger fifters. Being thus accustomed from my cradle to take an intereft in the improvement of children, and to watch the progrefs of their understandings, I have formed an habitual attachment to youth, and delight in the fociety of young people, and am never more agreeably employed than in contributing to their ftock of knowledge and amufement."

The prefent work is a useful and interefting addition to the juvenile library, and contains much variety-folid food for the hungry, with kickshaws interfperfed to enliven the entertainment. That it will effectually anfwer the end propofed, we have not the fmalleft doubt.
