SUNDAY-SCHOOL HYMNS.

HYMN 105. L. M.

THE BIBLE.

1 This is a precious book indeed! Happy the child that loves to read! 'Tis God's own word which he has given To show our souls the way to heaven.

2 It tells us how the world was made;
And how good men the Lord obey'd;
Here his commands are written too,
To teach us what we ought to do.

3 It bids us all from sin to fly,
Because our souls can never die;
It points to heaven where angels dwell,
And warns us to escape from hell.

4 But what is more than all beside,
The Bible tells us, Jesus died!
This is its best, its chief intent,
To lead poor sinners to repent.

HYMN 106. C. M.

1 How glorious is our heavenly King,
Who reigns above the sky!

How shall a child presume to sing
His dreadful majesty!

2 How great his power is none can tell,
Nor think how large his grace;
Not men below, nor saints that dwell,
On high before his face.

3 Not angels that stand round the Lord,
Can search his secret will;
But they perform his heavenly word,
And sing his praises still.

4 Then let me join this holy train,
And my first offerings bring;

Th' eternal God will not disdain
To hear an infant sing.

5 Uh be noo jee ye dook mon oo, Mah moo yuh wuh gain duh mook; Ke kain duh maig ewh Mun e doo,

5 My heart resolves, my tongue obeys, And angels shall rejoice

To hear their mighty Maker's praise
Sound from a feeble voice.

[blocks in formation]

1 Great God! to thee my voice I raise,
To thee my youngest hours belong;
I would begin my life with praise,
Till growing years improve the song.

2 'Tis to thy sovereign grace I owe That I was born on Christian ground, Where streams of heavenly mercy flow, And words of sweet salvation sound.

3 How do I pity those that dwell

Where ignorance and darkness reigns! They know no heaven, they fear no hell; Those endless joys, those endless pains.

4 Thy glorious promises, O Lord,
Kindle my hopes and my desire;
While all the preachers of thy word
Warn me to 'scape eternal fire.
