forth Humility and Devotion, and all thof holy Defires which become the Remembrance of a crucified Saviour. Let me ever efteem it my Privilege and Happiness to have a Day of Reft fet apart for thy Service, and the Concerns of my Soul; and let me employ it to all thofe holy Purposes Thou haft appointed.

Extend, O Lord, thy Pity and Compaffion to the whole Race of Mankind: Enlighten the Gentile World with the Knowledge of thy Truth, and bring into thy Flock thy ancient People the Jews, and let all who name the Name of Chrift depart from all Iniquity. Be gracious to thy holy Catholic Church; Grant that the may always preferve that Doctrine and Difcipline which Thou haft appointed, and that the Gates of Hell may never prevail against her. Grant, O Lord, that all my Governors in Church and State may be useful and serviceable to thy Glory, and the public Good, remembering the great Account they muft one Day give. Be merciful to all that are in Affliction or Distress, that labour under Poverty or Perfecution, under Bodily Pains or Difeafes, or under Temptation or Trouble of Mind; be pleafed to fupport and comfort them, and in thy good Time to deliver them, according to thy great Mercy. Blefs all my Friends, Relations and Acquaintance; thofe that are in Sin, convert them;

them; thofe that are in Grace, confirm and ftrengthen them; thofe that are in Adverfity, comfort and relieve them; and thofe that are in Profperity, fuffer them not to forget Thee. Unite us all, O God, to one another by mutual Love, and to thyfelf, by the conftant Practice of Piety and Holinefs.

Make me mindful of that Time when I fhall lie down in the Duft; and because I know not the Day nor the Hour, when I fhall be fummoned to the great Tribunal, let me be always upon my Guard, and never live in fuch a State as I fhall be afraid to die in ; but that my daily Care may be, to get my Soul raised more and more into fuch an holy, heavenly Temper, fuch Delight in God, fuch unfpotted Purity, and fervent Charity, as may best qualify and prepare me for the Company of Saints and Angels in thy heavenly Kingdom; through Jefus Chrift our Lord; in whofe bleffed Name and Words I conclude my imperfect Prayers, faying,

Our Father, &c.

The Grace of our Lord Jefus Chrift, the Love of God, and the Fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with me this Day, henceforth, and for evermore. Amon.

A Prayer for a Perfon that daily works at his Trade, to be added to the former Prayer.

ALMIGHTY God, who in thy wife Provividence haft conftituted feveral Ranks and Qualities of Men, that they might mutually fubfift to the Support of each other: Teach me to be content with the Station wherein Thou hast been pleased to place me: Grant that I may honeftly and diligently discharge the Duties of my Calling; and without Anxiety depend upon thy Bleffing for the Succefs of my lawful Endeavours. That however contemptible my Profeffion may be in the Eyes of Men, my Fidelity and Industry may be acceptable in thy Sight: That they may bring me in Return a convenient Subfiftence for my Family in this Life; and in the next, the Reward Thou haft promised to all thofe that truly love and fear Thee, through Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

An Evening Prayer for a Perfon in private. MOST great and glorious Lord God! I defire to proftrate myself with all Humility before thy divine Majesty, under a deep Senfe of my own Unworthiness: With Shame and Sorrow and Confufion of Face, I

confefs

confefs, and acknowledge thy infinite Mercy and Goodness to me, and my own Vileness and Ingratitude to Thee. I have, O Lord, abufed thy Gifts and Bleffings, defpifed thy Goodness, neglected thy Service, preferred my Paffions and other Creatures, before my Duty and thy Commands. I have neither believed in Thee, O my God, nor obeyed Thee, nor loved Thee as I ought, and as I folemnly vowed I would. O Lord God, moft gracious and reconcileable, pity and pardon me; I lament, O Lord, my deteftable Impiety, for having fo long, and so often, and fo obftinately offended Thee. I confefs and will forfake my Wickedness, and am forry for my Sins. It grieves me, O moft amiable Goodness, it grieves me that ever I offended Thee; with all my Heart, O my. God, do I now renew the facred Vow, which alas! I have fo often violated. I utterly renounce, O Lord, all Things that may any way displease Thee; from them all let it be thy good Pleasure to deliver me. I know, Lord, I cannot love Thee but I muft hate Evil; and therefore I renounce and deteft it. Turn Thou me, O Lord God, and fo fhall I be turned; turn the whole Stream of my Affections from fenfual Love to the Love of Thee. O my God, let thy heavenly Love be the conftant Bias of my Soul; O may it be the natural Spring and Weight of my Heart, that it may always

move towards Thee. Father, I have finned against Heaven, and in thy Sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy Son; but I return with the Prodigal: O let thy paternal Bowels yearn over me, and for Jefus Chrift his Sake, graciously receive me.

Lord, ac

cept of my imperfect Repentance, and fend thy Spirit of Adoption into my Heart to inftil true filial Affections, that I may again be owned by Thee for thy Child, and call thee Father, and Share in the Bleflings of the Children, and at laft become an Inheritor of the Kingdom of Heaven.

O my God, fill my Soul with fo entire reverential a Love of Thee, that I may love nothing but for thy Sake, or in Subordina tion to thy Love. Give me Grace to study thy Knowledge, that the more I know Thee, the more I may love Thee. Create in me a fincere Obedience to all thy Commands, a fubmiffive Patience under all thy Chaftifements, and an abfolute Refignation unto all thy Difpofals.

Make me, O Lord, fo tender of thy Honour, that I may thew a due Regard to all the Parts of thy Worship: That I may always enter thy Houfe with recollected Thoughts, compofed Behaviour, becoming Reverence, and fincere Intentions of Love; that I may hear thy Word with a ferious Attention and inflameable Heart, and a particular Application; that I may frequent the
