548. L. M. 1 LET everlasting glories crown Thy head, my Savior and my Lord; Thy hands have brought salvation down, And writ the blessing in thy word. 2 In vain the trembling conscience seeks Some solid ground to rest upon; With long despair the spirit breaks, Till we apply to Christ alone. 3 How well thy sacred truths agree! How wise and holy each command! Thy promises, how firm they be! How firm our hope and comfort stand! 4 Should all the forms that men devise Assault my faith with treach'rous art, I'd call them vanity and lies, And bind the gospel to my heart. 549. C. M. 1 ON Zion, his most holy mount, 2 See, to the vilest of the vile 3 The pained, the sick, the dying, now 4 But, O, what draughts of bliss unknown, 5 There joys, immeasurably high, And springs of life, that never dry, 1 How rich thy bounty, King of kings! Thy favors how divine! The blessings which thy gospel brings, 2 Gold is but dross, and gems but toys, 3 Yet all these treasures of thy grace 4 Feebly they lisp thy glories forth, 5 Such wonders power divine effects; 1 THUS spake the Savior, when he sent His ministers to preach his word; They through the world obedient went, And spread the gospel of their Lord: 2 Go forth, ye heralds, in my name; Bid all the world my grace receive; The gospel jubilee proclaim, And call them to repent and live. 3 The joyful news to all impart, And teach them where salvation lies; 1 MORTALS, will you scorn the message, Listen to it Every line is full of love. 2 Hear the heralds of the gospel, Free forgiveness in his name! 3 Tempted souls, they bring you succor; Chase away the falling tears. 553. S. M. 1 SWEET is the friendly voice 2 No balm on earth like this 3 Still merciful and kind, Thy mercy, Lord, reveal: The broken heart thy love can bind, 4 Thy presence shall restore Peace to the anxious breast: Lord, let our steps be drawn no more From paths which thou hast blest. Y L. M. 554. 1 COMFORT, ye ministers of grace, Comfort the children of your Lord, O lift ye up the fallen race, And cheer them by the Gospel word. 2 Go into every nation, go, Speak to their trembling hearts, and cry, Glad tidings unto all we show; Jerusalem, thy God is nigh. 3 Hark! in the wilderness a cry, A voice that loudly calls, Prepare! And means to make his entrance there! 4 The Lord shall clear his way through all: Whate'er obstructs, obstructs in vain; The vale shall rise, the mountain fall, Crooked be straight, and rugged plain. 5 The glory of the Lord displayed Shall all mankind together view, 555.
