24. Evening Hymn. L. M.
For all the blessings of the light:
Under thine own Almighty wings. 2 Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son,
The ills that I this day have done;
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be. 3 O may my soul on Thee repose,
And with sweet sleep mine eye-lids close;
To serve my God when I awake.
Though he may strike, he cannot harm. 5 For death is life, and labour's rest,
If with thy gracious presence blest;
I'm still secure, for still with Thee. 6 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
C. M. 1 ETERNAL Father, let our songs
Like holy incense rise:
To reach the lofty skies.
Thy hand was still our guard :
Thy mercy stood prepar’d.
Encompass us around;
Hath our Redeemer found !
To save our sinful souls ?
Fast as each minute rolls.
Lord, to thy cross we flee;
To be renew'd by Thee.
26. For a more profitable attendance on the means of
grace. c. M.
Of thy salvation, Lord !
How slow to learn thy word.
2 Oft we frequent thy holy place,
Yet hear almost in vain;
Our languid powers retain.
How negligent our fear!
How few affections there ! 4 Great God! thy sovereign aid impart,
To give thy word success; : Write all its precepts on our heart,
And deep its truths impress.
That leads to joys on high ;
And love shall never die.
27. Jesus the resurrection and the life. John xi.25. C. M.
1 Pour down thy Spirit, gracious Lord,
On all assembled here:
With meekness and with fear.
2 By faith in Thee the soul receives
New life, though dead before:
Shall live to die no more.
3 Preserve the power of faith alive
In those who love thy name;
To quench the sacred flame.
4 Thy grace and mercy first prevaild
From death to set us free;
Unless renew'd by Thee. 5 To Thee we look, to Thee we bow;
To Thee for help we call ;
Our Hope, our Joy, our All.
1 ALMIGHTY God! thy word is cast
Like seed into the ground;
And righteous fruits abound.
This holy seed remove;
To bring forth fruits of love.
The rising plant destroy;
The fruits of peace and joy.
4 Oft as the precious seed is sown,
Thy quickening grace bestow;
29. After Sermon. (4. 10.) I LORD! ere we leave thy hallow'd courts,
impart Thy heavenly blessing to each Christian's
heart, Plant in our souls the fruits of faith & love,
And lead us onward to thy courts above. 2 We praise thy name for every Sabbath given, Praise for the means that guide our steps
to heaven, We praise the Lord, who died our souls to
save, The glorious Saviour risen from the grave. 3 Praise for the heavenly truths our ears have
heard, 0! may our souls retain the living word : Make the seed sown within our hearts in
crease, And bid us, when we go, depart in peace. 4 Then when our earthly Sabbaths, Lord,
