3 Soar we now, where Christ hath led,
Following our exalted Head;
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies. 4 Sinners, glad your voices raise;
Sing your great Redeemer's praise;
Sing, ye heavens! Thou earth, reply! 5 Thee we greet, triumphant now;
Hail, the Resurrection Thou !
58. Christ's triumph over death and the grave. (4.7.)
1 CHRIST,the Lord,is risen to-day:Hallelujah.
Our triumphant holiday;
Sinners to redeem and save.
Grave! where is thy victory?
Peace with God for ever made,
4 Christ, the Lord, is risen to-day :
Our triumphant holiday:
1 The Lord is risen! He, who came
To suffer death and conquer too,
The praise to man's Redeemer due;
(Always alike to bless inclin’d,) Sent to redeem us from above,
To save, to sanctify mankind. Chorus.—Worthy of all power and praise,
He who died and rose again; Lamb of God, and slain to raise
Man to life redeem'd.- Amen.
2 We, on our earthly parents' side,
Could but receive a life of earth;
And rose to give us heavenly birth.
Aided by Him be our employ,
1 HE dies ! the Friend of Sinners dies !
Lo! Salem's daughters weep around: A solemn darkness veils the skies :
.A sudden trembling shakes the ground. 2 Draw near and trace in sad review
His grief, who bow'd beneath your load: He gave His anguish'd life for you,
Pour'd forth in streams of precious blood. 3 Yet see! the Lord forsakes the tomb;
In vain His foes forbid His rise:
And hail His welcome to the skies. 4 Cease, cease your tears, ye Saints and tell
How high your great Deliv’rer reigns : Sing how He spoild the hosts of hell,
And led the captive Death in chains.
5 Sing--“Live for ever, Wondrous King !
“Born to redeem, and strong to save; “ Thine arm has torn from death its sting
“ And won the vict'ry from the grave.
The resurrection and ascension of Christ. Ps. 24,
1 The Lord is risen from the dead :
Ris'n to the majesty on high :
Dragg'd to the portals of the sky. 2 Lo! His triumphal chariot waits,
And angels chant the raptured lay;
“Ye everlasting doors, give way.
“And wide unfold the ethereal scene;
“Receive the King of glory in.”
“ The Lord of hosts, in battle strong;
“ And leads in chains the captive throng. 5 “Behold! the King of Glory waits ;
“ Celestial powers His voice obey :
“ Ye everlasting doors, give way.” 6 Who is the King of glory? Who?
“ The Lord, of power supreme possest:
The kingdom of Christ. Phil. iv. 4. (4. 6. & 2. 8.)
REJOICE! the Lord is King!
And triumph evermore :
The mighty Saviour reigns;
Rose to His throne above:
His kingdom cannot fail;
Into His hands are given :
Rejoice in glorious hope
To their eternal home :
