5 Now in the heaven above
He sits beside the throne,
And there implores his Father's love
For those who wronged his own.

Coming of Christ.

C. M. Doddridge.

1 HARK the glad sound! the Saviour comes! The Saviour promised long!

Let every heart

prepare a throne,

And every voice a song.

2 On him the spirit, largely poured,

Exerts its sacred fire,

Wisdom, and might, and zeal, and love,
His holy breast inspire.

3 He comes from thickest films of vice
To clear the mental ray ;

And on the eye-balls of the blind
pour celestial day.

To

4 He comes the broken heart to bind,
The bleeding soul to cure;
And with the treasures of his grace
T'enrich the humble poor.

5 Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace,
Thy welcome shall proclaim;
And heaven's eternal arches ring
With thy beloved name.

1 HARK! what mean those holy voices,
Sweetly sounding through the skies?

BIRTH OF CHRIST.

Lo! the angelic host rejoices;
Heavenly hallelujahs rise.

2 Listen to the wond'rous story,
Which they chant in hymns of joy;
"Glory in the highest, glory!

Glory be to God most high!

3 "Peace on earth, good will from heaven,
Reaching far as man is found;
Souls redeemed and sins forgiven;
Loud our golden harps shall sound.

4 "Christ is born, the great anointed;
Heaven and earth his praises sing!
O receive, whom God appointed
For your Prophet, Priest and King."

5 Let us learn the wond'rous story
Of our great Redeemer's birth;
Spread the brightness of his glory
Till it cover all the earth.

Birth of Jesus.

C. M.

Patrick.

1 WHILE shepherds watched their flocks by night, All seated on the ground,

The angel of the Lord came down,
And glory shone around.

2 "Fear not," said he,-for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled mind,-
"Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind.

3 "To you, in David's town, this day
Is born of David's line,

The Saviour, who is Christ the Lord;
And this shall be the sign:

4 "The heavenly babe you there shall find
To human view displayed,

All meanly wrapt in swathing bands,
And in a manger laid."

5 Thus spake the seraph, and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels' praising God, and thus
Address'd their joyful song:

6 "All glory be to God on high,
And to the earth be peace!

Good will henceforth, from heaven to men,
Begin and never cease."

Coming of Christ. 7's & 6's M.

Montgomery.

1 HAIL to the Lord's anointed!
Great David's greater Son;
Hail, in the time appointed,
His reign on earth begun.
He comes to break oppression,
To set the captive free,
To take away transgression,
And rule in equity.

2 Before him, on the monntains,
Shall Peace the herald go;
And righteousness in fountains
From hill to valley flow.
For him shall prayer unceasing,
And daily vows ascend;
His kingdom still increasing,
A kingdom without end.

3 O'er every foe victorious,
He on his throne shall rest,

1 OH Saviour, whom this holy morn
Gave to our world below;
To mortal want and labor born,
And more than mortal wo!

2 Incarnate Word! by every grief,
By each temptation tried,
Who lived to yield our ills relief,
And to redeem us died!

3 If gaily clothed and proudly fed,
In dangerous wealth we dwell,
Remind us of thy manger bed,
And lowly cottage cell!

4 If prest by poverty severe,
In lonely want we pine,
Oh may thy spirit whisper near,
How poor a lot was thine!

5 Through fickle fortune's various scene

From sin preserve us free!
Like us thou hast a mourner been,
May we rejoice with thee!

Humility of Jesus.

Dundee.

1 WHEN Jesus left his Father's throne,
He chose an humble birth;
And all unhonored and unknown,
He came to dwell on earth.

2 Like him may we be found below,
In wisdom's path of peace;

C. M.

Like him in grace and knowledge grow,
As years and strength increase.

3 Sweet were his words, and kind his look,
When mothers round him pressed;
Their infants in his arms he took,
And on his bosom blessed.

4 Safe from the world's alluring charms,
Beneath his watchful eye,

Thus in the circle of his arms
May we for ever lie.

Not ashamed of Jesus.

1 JESUS! and can it ever be

That I should be ashamed of thee?

L. M.

Gregg.

Ashamed of thee, whom angels praise,

Whose glories shine through endless days!

2 Ashamed of Jesus! Sooner far
Let evening blush to own its star;
He sheds the beams of light divine
O'er this benighted soul of mine.

3 Ashamed of Jesus! that dear friend
On whom my hopes of heaven depend?
