2 Pleasant are the songs we raise;
Full of joy our notes of praise;
But a music sweeter far

Breathes where angel spirits are.

3 Shall we ever rise to dwell
Where immortal praises swell?
And can children ever go
Where eternal Sabbaths glow?

4 Yes:-that rest our own may be,
All the good shall Jesus see;
For the good a rest remains,
Where the glorious Saviour reigns.

Heaven.

S. M.

Mrs Steele.

1 FAR from these scenes of night
Unbounded glories rise,
And realms of infinite delight,
Unknown to mortal eyes.

2 There sickness never comes;
There grief no more complains;
Health triumphs in immortal bloom,
And purest pleasure reigns.

3 No jarring passions there
The sons of peace molest;
But harmony and love sincere
Fill every happy breast.

4 No cloud those regions know,
Forever bright and fair;

For sin, the source of mortal wo,
Can never enter there.

HEAVEN.

5 There night is never known,
Nor sun's faint, sickly ray;
But glory from the eternal throne
Spreads everlasting day.

6 O! may this prospect fire

Our hearts with ardent love;
May lively faith and strong desire
Bear every thought above.

1 ОH! when the hours of life are past, And death's dark shade arrives at last, It is not sleep,-it is not rest,

"T is glory opening to the blest.

2 Their way to heaven was pure from sin,
And Christ shall then receive them in;
There each shall wear a robe of light
Like his, divinely fair and bright.

3 There parted hearts again shall meet
In union holy, calm and sweet;
There grief find rest, and never more
Shall sorrow call them to deplore.

4 There angels will unite their prayers
With spirits bright and blest as theirs,
And light shall glance on every crown,
From suns that never more go down.

5 No storms shall ride the troubled air,
No voice of passion enter there;
But all be peaceful as the sigh

Of evening gales, that breathe and die.

6 For there the God of mercy sheds
His purest influence on their heads,
And gilds the spirits round the throne
With glory radiant as his own.

The Heavenly Rest.

Lanesboro'.

1 There is an hour of peaceful rest,
To mourning wanderers given;
There is a tear for souls distressed,
A balm for every wounded breast,-
'Tis found above, in heaven.

2 There is home for weary souls,
By sin and sorrow driven,

P. M.

When tossed on life's tempestuous shoals,
Where storms arise, and ocean rolls,
And all is drear but heaven.

3 There faith lifts up the tearful eye,
The heart with anguish riven;
And views the tempest passing by,
The evening shadows quickly fly,
And all serene in heaven.

4 There fragrant flowers immortal bloom ;-
And joys supreme are given.
There rays divine disperse the gloom ;-
Beyond the confines of the tomb,

Appears the dawn of heaven.

1 Ir death my friend and me divide,
Thou dost not, Lord, my sorrow chide,
Or frown, my tears to see:
Restrained from passionate excess,
Thou bidst me mourn in calm distress,
For them that rest in thee.

2 I feel a strong immortal hope,
Which bears my mournful spirit up,
Beneath its mountain load:

Redeemed from death, and grief, and pain,
I soon shall find my friend again,
Within the arms of God.

3 Pass a few fleeting moments more,
And death the blessing shall restore,
Which death has snatched away;
For me thou wilt the summons send,
And give me back my parted friend,
In that eternal day.

Earth.

Wesley.

1 THE saints on earth and those above,

But one communion make;
Joined to their Lord in bonds of love,
All of his grace partake.

2 One family, we dwell in him,
One church above, beneath,

Though now divided by the stream,
The narrow stream of death.

3 One army of the living God,
At his command we bow:

Part of the host have crossed the flood,
And part are crossing now.

4 O God, be thou our constant guide!
Then, when the word is given,

Bid death's cold flood its waves divide,
And land us safe in heaven.

177. These are they that came out of C. M. great tribulation.

Ballerma.

Watts.

1 THESE glorious minds, how bright they shine! Whence all their white array?

How came they to the happy seats
Of everlasting day?

2 From torturing pains to endless joys
On fiery wheels they rode,

And they have washed their raiment white
In Jesus' dying blood.

3 Now they approach their Father, God,
And bow before his throne;

Their warbling harps and sacred songs
Adore the Holy One.

4 Tormenting thirst shall leave their souls,
And hunger flee as fast:

The fruit of life's immortal tree

Shall be their sweet repast.

5 The Lamb shall lead his heavenly flock
Where living fountains rise,

And love divine shall wipe away
All sorrow from their eyes.
