Thou blessed; if Thou afflictest us, be Thou also blessed. We cheerfully receive whatsoever Thou dost appoint, and for all that befalleth us we give thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Thomas à Kempis.

GOD of peace and charity, deliver us from all temptation, assist us in every conflict, console us in every tribulation. Give us patience in adversity, and grace to worship Thee with a pure conscience, and to serve Thee with all our strength. We bless Thee, we thank Thee, we magnify Thee, day by day. Let our praises be pleasing to Thee, and our prayer acceptable.

THE

Gallican.

HE Lord bless us and keep us; the Lord make His face to shine upon us, and be gracious unto us; the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, and give us peace; both now and forevermore.

SECTION XI

CONFIRMATIONES

PSALM Xci. Qui habitat.

WHOSO dwelleth under the defence of

the Most High : shall abide under the

shadow of the Almighty.

I will say unto the Lord, Thou art my hope, and my stronghold: my God, in him will I trust.

For he shall deliver thee from the snare of the hunter: and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall defend thee under his wings, and thou shalt be safe under his feathers: his faithfulness and truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for any terror by night nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

For the pestilence that walketh in darkness nor for the sickness that destroyeth in the noon-day.

A thousand shall fall beside thee, and ten thousand at thy right hand but it shall not come nigh thee.

Yea, with thine eyes shalt thou behold: and see the reward of the ungodly.

:

For thou, Lord, art my hope thou hast set thine house of defence very high.

There shall no evil happen unto thee: neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.

:

They shall bear thee in their hands that thou hurt not thy foot against a stone.

Thou shalt go upon the lion and adder : the young lion and the dragon shalt thou tread under thy feet.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him I will set him

:

up, because he hath known my Name.

He shall call upon me, and I will hear him : yea, I am with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and bring him to honour.

With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.

TH

HEY that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.

Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains; for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

THE

HE Lord liveth; and blessed be my strong helper and praised be the God of my salvation.

O how plentiful is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee: and that thou hast prepared for them that put their trust in thee, even before the sons of men!

Be strong, and he shall establish your heart: all ye that put your trust in the Lord.

Why art thou so heavy, O my soul: and why art thou so disquieted within me?

O put thy trust in God: for I will yet give him thanks, which is the help of my countenance, and my God.

Whom have I in heaven but thee: and there is none upon the earth that I desire in comparison of thee.

The Lord is King, be the people never so impatient he sitteth between the Cherubim, be the earth never so unquiet.

OUR fathers hoped in thee: they trusted

in thee, and thou didst deliver them. Thou art my helper and redeemer; make no long tarrying, O my God.

Our help standeth in the name of the Lord who hath made heaven and earth.

IN

'N God's word will I rejoice in the Lord's word will I comfort me.

Yea, in God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

O set me up upon the rock that is higher than I for thou hast been my hope, and a strong tower for me against the enemy.

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

The Lord shall give strength unto his people the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace.

THOU, Lord, in the beginning hast laid

the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: they all shall wax old as doth a garment;

And as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

How excellent is thy mercy, O God, and the children of men shall put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

Why art thou so vexed, O my soul: and why art thou so disquieted within me?

O put thy trust in God: for I will yet thank him, which is the help of my countenance, and my God.
