HYMNS.

1.

1. Deluded mortals, here below,
Pursue the phantom bliss in vain :
The world's a wilderness of woe,
And life a pilgrimage of pain.

2. "Till mild RELIGION from above Descends, a sweet engaging form, The messenger of heavenly love,

The bow of promise mid the storm.

3. Beyond the narrow vale of time,
Where bright celestial ages roll,
To scenes eternal, scenes sublime,
She points the way, and leads the soul.

4. Baptized with her renewing fire,
May we the crown of glory gain,
Rise when the hosts of heaven expire,
And reign with God, for ever reign.

H.

1. WAKE, and lift up thyself, my heart,
And with the angels bear thy part;
Who all night long unwearied sing,
Glory to the ETERNAL KING.

2. Glory to thee who safe hast kept,
And hast refreshed me when I slept;
Grant, Lord, when I from death shall wake,
I may of endless life partake.

3. Lord, I my vows to thee renew, Scatter my sins as morning dew;

Guard my first springs of thought and will, And with THYSELF my spirit fill.

4 Direct, controul, suggest, this day, All I design, or do, or say;

That all my powers, with all their might, In thy sole glory may unite.

5. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise him all creatures here below;

Praise him above, y' angelic host,

Praise FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST.

III.

1. GLORY to thee, my God, this night,
For all the blessings of the light;

Keep me, O keep me, KING of Kings,
Under thine own Almighty wings.

2. Forgive me, LORD, for thy dear Son,
The ills which I this day have done;
That with the world, myself, and thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.

3. Teach me to live, that I may dread,
The grave as little as my bed;
Teach me to die, that so I may
Rise glorious at the last great day.

4. If wakeful in the night I lie,
My soul with heavenly thoughts supply;
Let no ill dreains disturb my rest,
No powers of darkness me molest.

5. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise him all creatures here below;

Praise him above, y' angelic host,

Praise FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST.

IV.

Consors paterni luminis.

1. Partner of the Father's light,
Source thyself of light and day,
Whilst our praises wake the night,
Listen, SAVIOUR, whilst we pray,

2. Dissipate our mental gloom,
Banish evil spirits hence;
Let not heavy slumber come,
Sealing all the powers

of sense.

3. Whilst believing we adore,
Listen to our humble strain ;
Whilst thy favour we implore,
Let us not implore in vain.

4. Holy FATHER, lend thine ear;
Hearken THOU, his only Peer;*
Hearken SPIRIT, Paraclete ;†
GOD whom endless ages greet.
