XXXI.

1. Jesus Christ is ris'n to day, -Hallelujah!

Our triumphant holy day;

Who did once upon the cross

Suffer to redeem our loss.

2. Hymns of praise then let us sing, Unto CHRIST Our heavenly KING,

Who endur'd the cross and

Sinners to redeem and save.

grave,

3. But the pains, which he endur'd,
Our Salvation have procur'd;
Now he reigns triumphant KING,
Where the angels ever sing-Hallelujah!

XXXII.

1. Angels, roll the rock away,
Death, yield up thy mighty prey:
See, he rises from the tomb,
Glowing with immortal bloom.

2. 'Tis the SAVIOUR, Angels, raise
Fame's immortal trump of praise,
Let the earth's remotest bound
Hear the joy inspiring sound.

3. Heaven, unfold thy portals wide;
Glorious Conqueror, thro' them ride;
KING OF GLORY, mount thy throne,
Thy great FATHER's and thine own.

XXXIII.

1. The SAVIOUR dies, yet mocks the grave,
Ascends the FATHER'S throne;
And then redeems his pledge to save,
And animate his own.

2. A streaming light and rushing sound
Astonishment inspire,

A Dove-like SPIRIT hovers round,
Baptising them with fire.

3. Those hearts, which earth had long

Now soar to things above;

(detain'd

Those tongues which silent grief had chain'd,

Are eloquent with love.

4. Now, willing heralds of his grace,

Both ease and life they scorn;

And fly to each benighted place,
The harbingers of morn.

5. A light on ignorance they shed,
And sooth the troubled breast;
Pour life and vigour on the dead,
And give the weary rest.

6. SPIRIT of life, our hearts controul,
Baptise them with thy fire;
Then shall our heav'n-born powers of soul
To heav'n alone aspire.

1. Come, SPIRIT, whose creative pow'r
Within our human breast we trace,
And deign upon our minds to show'r
The fulness of celestial grace.

2.

. The SOUL'S SWEET UNCTION from above; The GIFT OF HEAVEN'S EXALTED THRONE; The LIVING FOUNT OF FIRE and Love;

The PARACLETE; thy names we own.

* This hymn is a close translation of a Latin Hymn in the Roman Breviary; and the following is a paraphrase of parts of the same, and is taken from the ordination service.

3. Thou art of SEVENFOLD GIFTS THE SOURCE, THE FINGER, Thou, OF GOD'S RIGHT HAND; In giving eloquence thy force,

Fulfill'd the Father's pledges stand.

4. Illume perception with thy light,
Infuse thy love in every heart;
Our bodies strengthen with thy might,
To act the patient sufferer's part.

5. From us the cruel foe repel;
Our lot in peaceful scenes command,
And where, from danger we may dwell,
Conducted by thy saving hand.

6. Acquaintance with the FATHER teach; Enable us the SON to know;

And faith in THEE, the pow'r of each,
In all the scenes of life bestow.

7. Thro' endless ages let us sing

The FATHER, Whom as LORD we greet, The Son, who broke death's mighty sting, And HOLY GHOST, the PARAclete.

XXXV.

1. Come, HOLY GHOST, our souls inspire, And lighten with celestial fire;

Thou the anointing Spirit art,
Who dost thy sevenfold gifts impart!
Thy blessed unction from above
Is light, and life, and fire of love.

2. Enable, with perpetual light,
The dulness of our blinded sight;
Anoint and cheer our soiled face
With the abundance of thy grace;
Keep far our foes, give peace at home,
Where thou art guide no ill can come.

3. Teach us to know the FATHER, SON, And THEE of both to be but one; That thro' the ages all along,

This theme may be our endless song,

Praise to thy eternal merit

FATHER, SON, and HOLY SPIRIT.
