XCII. Paradife on Earth.

LORY to GOD that walks the sky, And fends His bleffings thro'; That tells His faints of joys on high, And gives a tafte below.

2. Glory to GoD that ftoops His throne, That duft and worms may fee't; And brings a glimpse of glory down

Around his facred feet.

3. When CHRIST, with all His graces Sheds His kind beams abroad; [crown'd, 'Tis a young heav'n on earthly ground, And glory in the bud.

4. A blooming paradife of joy

In this wild defart fprings ;
And ev'ry fenfe 1 ftraight employ,
On fweet celeftial things.

5. White lilies all around appear,

And each His glory fhows:
The rofe of Sharon bloffoms here,
The fairest flow'r that blows.

6. Chearful I feaft on heav'nly fruit,

And drink the pleasures down;
Pleasures that flow hard by the foot
Of the eternal throne.

7. But ab bow foon my joys decay,
How foon my fins arife,
And fnatch the heav'nly Scene away
From thefe lamenting eyes!

3. When fhall the time, dear Jefus, when'

God's Dominion over the Sea.

OD of the feas, Thy thund'ring voice Makes all the roaring waves rejoice; And one foft word of Thy command Can fink them filent in the fand!

2. If but a Mofes wave Thy rod,

The fea divides, and owns its GOD;
The ftoriny floods their Maker knew,
And let His chosen armies thro'.

3. The fcaly flocks amidst the sea,

To Thee, their LORD, a tribute pay;
The meanest fish that fwims the flood,
Leaps up, and means a praise to Go D.
[4. The larger monfters of the deep

On Thy commands attendance keep :
By Thy permiffion fport and play,
And cleave along their foaming way.
5. If God His voice of tempeft rears,
Leviathan lies ftill, and fears ;
Anon He lifts his noftrils high,
And fpouts the ocean to the sky.]
6. How is Thy glorious pow'r ador'd
Amidst these wat'ry nations, LORD!
Yet the bold men that trace the feas,
Bold men, refuse their MAKER'S praise.
[7. What scenes of miracle they fee,
And never tune a fong to Thee!
While on the flood they fafely ride,
They curfe the hand that fmooths the tide.
8. Anon they plunge in wat'ry graves,

And fome drink death among the waves;
Yet the furviving crew blafpheme,
Nor own the Gop that refcu'd them.]

OD moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform;
He plants his footsteps in the fea,
And rides upon the storm.
2. In deep unfathomable mines
Of never-failing skill,

He treafures up his great defigns,
And works his fov'reign will.

3. Ye fearful faints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye fo much dread
Are big with mercy, and will break
With bleffings on your head.
4. Judge not the LORD by feeble sense,
But truft Him for his grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a finiling face.

5. His purpofes will ripen faft,
Unfolding ev'ry hour;

The bud may have a bitter taste,

But fweet will be the flow'r.

6. Blind unbelief is fure to err,

And fear his work is vain
GOD is his own interpreter,
And He will make it plain.

Creation then in order rofe,
And man adorn'd the glorious close.
Th' angelic host God's praifes fang;
With fhouts the wide Empyrean rang.

2. God fpeaks the word; obedient, light
Beams on our fallen nature's fight;
And man, by grace thro' Chrift, restor'd,
Lives by the fame commanding word.
Behold the new creation rife;

It mounts and challenges the skies!
3. Speak, fpeak again, O potent voice!
That all thy children may rejoice!
The earth and heav'n create-anew,
And there let us thy perfon view;
With Thee in blifs for ever dwell,
And of Thy great Redemption tell!

Th' offended father foon relents, And turns with double love.

If God rebuke for pride,
He'll humble thy proud heart;
If for thy want of love he chide,
That love he will impart.

He fhall, by means like these,
Thy stubborn temper break;

Soften thy heart by due degrees, And make thy fpirit meek. 6. His chaft'ning therefore prize, The privilege of a faint Their hearts are hard who that despise, And their's too weak who faint.

C. Salvation by Grace.

RACE! 'tis a charming found, Harmonious to the ear! Heav'n with the echo fhall refound, And all the earth fhall hear.

Grace first contriv'd the way

To fave rebellious man;
And all the steps which now difplay
The great, the wond'rous, plan.
Grace taught our roving feet
To tread the heav'nly road;
And new fupplies each hour we meet,
While preffing on to Go D.

Grace all the work fhall crown,
Thro' everlasting days;
It lays in heav'n the topmoft ftone,
And well deferves the praise.

RATEFUL notes and numbers bring, While JEHOVAH's praife we fing: Holy, holy, holy, LORD,

Be thy glorious name ador'd!

2. Men on earth and faints above,
Sing the great REDEEMER'S love;
LORD thy mercies never fail,
Hail celeftial goodness hail !

3. Tho' unworthy LORD thine ear,
Our humble hallelujahs hear;
Purer praise we hope to bring,
When with faints we ftand and fing.,

4. Lead us to that blissful ftate,
Where Thou reign'ft fupremely great!
Look with pity from thy throne,
And fend thy holy spirit down!
5. While on earth ordain'd to stay,
Guide our footsteps in thy way:
'Till we come to reign with Thee,
And all thy glorious greatness fee!
6. Then with angels we'll again
Wake a louder, louder ftrain:
There, in joyful fongs of praife,
We'll our grateful voices raife.

7. There no tongue fhall filent be,
There all fhall join fweet harmony:
There, thro' heav'n's all fpacious round,
Thy praife, O GOD, will ever found.
LORD, thy mercies never fail,
Hail celeftial goodness hail !

4. Eternity, with all its years,
Stands prefent in Thy view
To Thee there's nothing old appears,
Great GoD, there's nothing new!

5. Our lives thro' various scenes are drawn,
And vext with trifling cares;
While Thine eternal thought moves on
Thine undisturb'd affairs.

6. Great GOD! how infinite art Thou!

What worthlefs worms are we !
Let the whole race of creatures bow,
And pay their praise to Thee!

Haft Thou, advanc'd the LORD, thy SoN!
Angels in all their robes of light,
Are made the fervants of His throne..

2. Before His feet their armies wait,
And swift as flames of fire they move;
To manage his affairs of state,
In works of vengeance, or of love.
3. His orders run thro' all their hofts,
Legions defcend at His command,

To fheld and guard the British coafts,
When foreign rage invades our land.
4. Now they are fent to guide our feet
Up to the gates of Thine abode;
