Our guide to Thee, the great unknown Through Him, O may our humble praise Accepted rife before Thy throne.

CVIII. On ordaining a Minifter.

REAT LORD of angels, we adore
The grace that builds thy courts be
low

And, thro' ten thousand fons of light,
Stoops to regard what mortals do.

2. Amidst the waftes of time and death
Succeffive paftors Thou doft raise,
Thy charge to keep, thy house to guide,
And form a people for thy praife.

3 At length, difmifs'd from feeble clay,
Thy fervants join th' angelic band;
With them thro' distant worlds they fly,
With them before thy prefence ftand.
4. O bleft employ! O glorious hope!
Sweet lenitive of grief and care!
When fhall we reach those radiant courts,
And all their joys and honors fhare?

Harbinger of human race."

7. Mafter (will we ever fay)
Taken from our head to-day,
See thy faithful fervants, fee!
Ever gazing up to Thee!

8. Grant, tho' parted, from our fight,
High above yon azure height;
Grant our hearts may thither rise,
Foll'wing Thee beyond the skies!
9. Ever upward let us move,
Wafted on the wings of love;
Looking when our LORD fhall come,
Longing, gafping after home!

10. There we shall with Thee remain,
Partners of thy endless reign;
There Thy face unclouded fee,
Find our heav'n of heav'ns in Thee!

APPY the church, thou facred plac The feat of thy CREATOR'S grace Thine holy courts are His abode, Thou earthly palace of our GOD! 2. Thy walls are ftrength, and at thy gates A guard of heav'nly warriors waits Nor fhall thy deep foundations move, Fixt on His counfels, and His love. 3. Thy foes in vain defigns engage, Against His throne in vain they rage; Like rifing waves with angry roar, That dash and die upon the fhore. 4. Then let our fouls in Sion dwell, Nor fear the wrath of men and hell; His arms embrace this happy ground, Like brazen bulwarks built around! 5 GOD is our fhield, and GoD our fun Swift as the fleeting moments run, On us he sheds new beams of grace; And we reflect His brightest praife.

TAPPY the heart, where graces reign,
Where love infpires the breaft;
Love is the brightest of the train,.
And ftrengthens all the reft.

2. Love fuffers long with patient eye,
Nor is provok'd in hafte;
She lets the prefent inj'ry die,
And foon forgets the past.

3. She ne'er defires nor feeks to know
The fcandals of the time;
Nor looks with pride on those below,
Nor envies those who climb.

APPY the man

that finds the

grace,

The blefling of God's chofen race;
The wisdom coming from above,
The faith that fweetly works by love.
2. Wisdom divine! Who tells the price
Of wisdom's coftly merchandize?
Wisdom to filver we prefer,
And gold is drofs compar'd to her.
3. Whate'er thy heart can with is poor.
To wisdom's all-fufficient store;
Pleafure and fame and health and friends,
She all created good tranfcends.

4. To pureft joys fhe all invites,
Chafte, holy fpiritual delights:
Her ways are ways of pleasantnefs,
And all her flow'ry paths are peace.
5. He finds, who wisdom apprehends,
A life begun that never ends:
The tree of life divine fhe is,
Set in the midst of paradife.

6. Happy the man who wisdom gains,
Thrice happy who his gueft retains :

1.

He owns and fhall for ever own
Wifdom and CHRIST and heav'n are one.

CXVI. The Objects of a Chriftian's Defires.

HAPPY the fout, whofe wishes climb

manfions in the skies!

He looks on all the joys of time,

With undefiring eyes.

2. In vain foft pleasure spreads her charms,
And throws her filken chain;
And wealth and fame invite his arms,
And tempt his ear in vain.

3. He knows that all thefe glitt'ring things
Muft yield to fure decay;
And fees on time's extended wings
How swift they fleet away.

4. To things unfeen by mortal eyes,
A beam of facred light
Directs his view, their profpe&ts rife
All permanent and bright.

5. His hopes are fix'd on joys to come;
Thofe blissful fcenes on high

Shall flourish in immortal bloom,
When time and nature die.

6. O were these heav'nly profpects mine,
Thefe pleafures could I prove;
Earth's fleeting views I would refign,
And raife my hopes above!

AND "The tall, the wife, the rev'rend head "Muft lie as low as ours."

3. Great GoD, is this our certain doom? And are we still secure?

Still walking downwards to our tomb,
And yet prepare no more?

4. Grant us the pow'rs of quick'ning grace, To fit our fouls to fly ;

1.

Then when we drop this dying flesh,.. We'll rise above the sky!

5. Hail the Heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the fun of righteousness!
Light, and life, and all He brings,
Ris'n with healing in his wings.

6. Mild, He lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the fons of earth,
Born
to give them second birth,
