HA

J.JARK! the loud trumpet's joyous found, From Sion's hill is heard,

To rouze the lift'ning world around,

To run the race prepar❜d.

2. The goal is plac'd beyond the pole,

The courfe this tract of life Angelic hofts affift each foul,

And death decides the ftrife.

3. Not ftars that deck the azure sky,
(So glorious to behold!)
Can with the num'rous prizes vie,
Bright crowns of fhining gold.

4. Yet fome flow fouls, with heavy pace,
Scarce drag their feet along;
Or backward fhun th' enriching race,
Among the thoughtlefs throng.
5. But in yon lonely rugged way,
And almost out of fight,.
See the choice few, without delay,
Wing their impetuous flight!

6. In love they study to excel,

In truth and righteousness ;

No words their fervent zeal can tell,
Or paint their future blifs.

HEARTS

Break by JESU's Crofs fubdu'd : See his body mangled rent,

Cover'd with a gore of blood!
Sinful foul what haft thou done?
Murder'd God's eternal fon!

2. Yes, your fins have done the deed,
Drove the nails that fix Him here;
Crown'd with thorns his facred head,
Pierc'd Him with the foldier's fpear;
Made his foul a facrifice;

For a finful world He dies!

3. Will ye let Him die in vain ?
Still to death purfue your God?
Open tear his wounds again!
Trample on his precious blood!
No; with all your fins you'll part:
And give the Lord a broken heart!

How kind their flumbers are!.
From fuff'rings and from fins releas'd,
And freed from ev'ry fnare..

The LAMB (once slain !) at his right-hand,
Affumes his royal feat:
Before Him all the heav'nly band,
With pleafing transports wait.

4. Angels, archangels, feraphim,

Blefs'd natives of the place;
And men whom JESUS did redeem,
Made denizons by grace.

5. Each perfon fhines divinely bright,

And God's pure image bears;
Each face an air of high delight,

An humble rev'rence wears.
6. In ftrains celeftial ev'ry tongue
Does God's due praife proclaim;
And all in confort fing the fong
Of Mofes and the LAMB..
7. The Hallelujah, once begun,
No paufe nor close will know ;
But joy and harmony, in one
Perpetual tranfport flow.

8. To these high ftrains their minds are bent, Their very work is reft:

E dies! the FRIEND of finners dies! /
Lo! Salem's daughters weep around;
A folemn darkness veils the fkies,

A fudden trembling shakes the ground.
2. Come, faints, and drop a tear or two
For Him who groan'd beneath your load!
He shed a thousand drops for you,
A thousand drops of richer blood.
3. Here's love and grief beyond degree,
The LORD of glory dies for men !
But lo! What fudden joys we see!
JESUS, the dead, revives again!
4. The rifing GOD forfakes the tomb,
The tomb in vain forbids his rife ;
Cherubic legions guard Him home,
And fhout Him welcome to the fkies.

5. Break off your tears, ye faints, and tell
Sing how He spoil'd the hosts of hell,
How high our great Deliv'rer reigns;
And led the monster Death in Chains.

6. Say
"Live for ever wond'rous KING!
"Born to redeem, and strong to fave!"
Then afk the monfter, "Where's thy fing!
"And where's thy vict'ry, boatting grave?"

E dies! the heav'nly lover dies!
The tidings ftrike a doleful found
On my poor heart-ftrings; deep He lies
In the cold caverns of the ground.
2. Come, faints, and drop a tear or two
On the dear bofom of your GOD;
He bed a thoufamd drops for you,
A thousand drops of richer blood!

The LORD of glory dies for men!
But lo, what fudden joys I fee!
Jefus the dead revives again.

4. The rifing GoD forfakes the tomb,
Up to his Father's court He flies;
Cherubic legions guard Him home,
And fhout Him welcome to the skies.
5. Break, off your tears, ye faints, and tell
How high our great deliv'rer reigns;
Sing how He fpoil'd the hofts of hell,
And led the monster, death, in chains.

PART I.

TELL! dreadful found! the region lies
Without the verge of light;

Where mingling flames, that conftant rife,
Add horror to the night.

In burning and immortal woe,

The damned welt'ring lie:
Their forrows fhall no period know,

Their worm fhall never die.

3. A gnawing guilt will cut the heart
With horror, grief, and thame,
Whilft ev'ry paffion does impart
A fad increafe of pain.

4. Quite out of reach, tho' ftill in fight,
The heav'nly glory lies;

They fee it far, and to its light
Lift their defpairing eyes.

‡ CXXXII. Invitation to Sinners. HO ev'ry one that thirfts draw near!

"Tis GoD invites the fall'n race: Mercy and free falvation buy, Buy wine, and milk, and gofpel grace. 2. Come to the living waters, come, Sinners obey your MAKER'S Voice; Return ye weary wand'rers home, And in redeeming love rejoice.

3. See from the rock a fountain rife!
For you in healing streams it rolls;
Money ye need not bring, nor price,
Ye lab'ring burthen'd fin-fick fouls.
4. Nothing ye fhall in exchange give
Leave all ye have, and are, behind;
Frankly the gift of GOD receive,
Pardon and peace in JESUS find.

1 CXXXIII. Chrift the Lamb of God. 75.
HOLY LAME, who Thee receive,
Who in Thee begin to live
Day and night they cry to thee,
As thou art, fo let us be.
Fix, O fix our wav'ring mind,
To thy cross our spirit bind
Earthly paffions far remove,
Perfect all our fouls in love.
Duft and aflies tho' we be,
Full of guilt and mifery;

Thine we are, Thou Son of GOD,
Take the purchase of thy blood.

Boundless wisdom, pow'r divine,
Love unspeakable are thine
Praife by all to thee be giv'n,

Sons of earth, and hofts of heav'n!

* CXXXIV. Chrift's Victory over Satan.

I. LJOSANNA to our conqu'ring KING,
The prince of darkness flies;
His troops rufh headlong down to hell,
Like lightning from the skies.

2. There, bound in chains, the lions roar,
And fright the refcu'd sheep;
But heavy bars confine their pow'r
And malice to the deep.

3. Hofanna to our conqu'ring KING,
All hail, incarnate love!

Ten thousand fongs and glories wait
To crown thy head above.

4. Thy vict'ries and Thy deathless fame
Thro' the wide world fhall run;
And everlasting ages fing

The Triumphs Thou haft won.

TOSANNA to the Prince of Light, That cloath'd Himself in clay; Enter'd the iron gates of death,

And tore the bars away.

2. Death is no more the king of dread, Since our Emmanuel rofe: ; He took the tyrant's fting away,

And spoil'd our hellish foes.

3. See how the conqu'ror mounts aloft, And to his FATHER flies;
