The Lord is my light.

WEET Saviour, bless us ere we go,
Thy Word into our minds instil,

And make our lukewarm hearts to glow
With lowly love and fervent will.

L.M.

Through life's long day, and death's dark night,
O gentle Jesus, be our light!

The day is done, its hours have run,
And Thou hast taken count of all;
The scanty triumphs grace hath won,
The broken vow, the frequent fall.
Through life's long day, &c.

For all we love, the poor, the sad,
The sinful, unto Thee we call;
O, let Thy mercy make us glad;
Thou art our Saviour, and our All.
Through life's long day, &c.

All travellers, Lord, by land or sea
Defend with Thy protecting care;

When in their need they call on Thee,
Hear Thou in highest heaven their prayer;
Through life's long day, &c.

Sweet Saviour, bless us; night is come;
Through night and darkness near us be,

Good angels watch about our home;
And we are one day nearer Thee.
Through life's long day, &c.

He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber
nor sleep.

THE day is past and over ;

I

All thanks, O Lord, to Thee!
that sinless

pray Thee now,

The hours of dark may be.

O Jesu! keep me in Thy sight,

And save me through the coming night.

The joys of day are over;

I lift my heart to Thee;
And ask Thee that offenceless
The hours of dark may be.

O Jesu! make their darkness light,
And save me through the coming night.

P.M.

The toils of day are over;
I raise the hymn to Thee;
And ask, that free from peril
The hours of dark may be.
O Jesu! keep me in Thy sight,
And guard me through the coming night.

Be Thou my soul's preserver,
O God! for Thou dost know
How many are the perils
Through which I have to go:
Lover of men, O hear my call,

And guard and save me from them all.

and sleep,

I will both lay me down in peace
for Thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in
safety.

8-7's.

HROUGH the day Thy love has spared us,

THR

Now we lay us down to rest;

Through the silent watches guard us,

Let no foe our peace molest.

Jesu, Thou our Guardian be.
Sweet it is to trust in Thee.

Pilgrims here on earth, and strangers,
Dwelling in the midst of foes,
Us and ours preserve from dangers,
In Thine arms may we repose;
And when life's short day is past,
Rest with Thee in heaven at last.

Sunday.

This is the day which the Lord hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.

DAY of rest and gladness,
O day of joy and light,
O balm of care and sadness,
Most beautiful, most bright!
On thee the high and lowly,
Before the eternal throne,
Sing, "Holy, holy, holy,"
To the great Three in One.

On thee, at the creation

The light first had its birth;
On thee, for our salvation,

Christ rose from depths of earth;
On thee, our Lord victorious,
The Spirit sent from heaven;
And thus on thee, most glorious,
A triple light is given.

Thou art a port, protected

From storms that round us rise;

A garden, intersected

With streams of Paradise:

P.M.

Thou art a cooling fountain,

In life's dry, dreary sand; From thee, like Pisgah's mountain, We view our promised land.

Thou art a holy ladder,

Where angels go and come;
Each Sunday finds us gladder,
Nearer to heaven, our home.
A day of sweet reflection
Thou art a day of love,
A day of resurrection,

From earth to things above.

To-day, on weary nations,
The heavenly manna falls;
To holy convocations

The silver trumpet calls,
Where Gospel light is glowing
With pure and radiant beams,
And living water flowing
With soul-refreshing streams.
