ceed in value the spontaneous effusion of a spiritual and well-instructed mind on almost all occasions, but he is aware at the same time, that few are competent to this in the presence of others, and none of the forms he has ever met with, are, in his judgment to be compared with a wise and judicious selection from the "Book of Common Prayer," compiled by the Fathers of the English Reformation.

CHURCH PRAYERS.

1. INTRODUCTORY.

O LORD, we beseech thee mercifully to receive the prayers of thy people which call upon thee; and grant that they may both perceive and know what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

[1st Sunday after Epiphany.]

LET thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of thy humble servants; and that they may obtain their petitions, make them to ask such things as shall please thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

[10th Sunday after Trinity.]

O GOD, our refuge and strength, who art the author of all godliness; Be ready, we beseech thee, to hear the devout prayers of thy Church; and grant that those things which we ask faithfully we may obtain effectually; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

[23rd Sunday after Trinity.]

PREVENT us, O Lord, in all our doings, with thy most gracious favour, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works, begun, continued, and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy Name, and finally by thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through Jesus

Christ our Lord.

Amen.

[At end of Communion Service.]
